Meet the Author: Maria Gianferrari

The Island Creek Library has exciting news!  We have been selected as a partner school for the very first FCPS Meet the Author TV program this year, which will be broadcast on the Fairfax Network, Red Apple 21, on Thursday, September 22 at 1:00 PM.

Maria Gianferrari is the author of many “pawsome dog tails,” such as Hello Goodbye Dog, Operation Rescue Dog, and To Dogs with Love, perfect for students in grades K-4. https://mariagianferrari.com/books/

On Thursday’s program, Gianferrari will talk about her latest picture book, Being a Dog: A tail of Mindfulness, inspired by her late rescue pup, Becca.  Island Creek second graders will be connected live with the author live and will have opportunities on camera to ask questions about books by Gianferrari that they have read this year in the library and homeroom. Students in other grades may also submit questions via email, while schools from around FCPS and around the country will also be watching live and be able to call in with questions.

Through our partnership with the program, we have added several new titles by Gianferrari to our Island Creek library collection, some of which are being read as a class during library time, and others which can be borrowed by teachers and families. The Fairfax County Public Library also carries 11 books by Maria Gianferrari that may interest your readers. Tune in on Thursday, September 22 at 1:00PM to join the show! Tune in live on Red Apple Channel 21 on cable television in Fairfax County, or stream live online at https://www.fcps.edu/tv. The program will be recorded and available on the FCPS Meet the Author web site for viewing any time. https://www.fcps.edu/node/46204
