Letter From the Principal

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

We have had an exciting first few weeks of school. We have started the year off with many assessments. These data points will be looked at holistically to determine instructional planning steps, as well as supports and enrichment for students. Every family should have a parent/teacher conference this fall to review how your child is learning so far this year.

As I shared at our recent PTA meeting, we are committed to providing a caring climate and culture where each and every student, staff member, and family is welcomed, respected, and valued. We are working with our school Equity Committee and our Family Engagement Committee this year on ways in which we can acknowledge, teach about and celebrate our diverse school community, to include our many cultures, military connected families, LGBTQ+ community, and special needs community. Building a welcoming community takes team work. If you are interested in engaging in this work, please email me.

I hope to see you tonight at Football Feeder Night. My girls and I look forward to this fun family event every school year!

Thank you.

Sharyn Prindle

Principal

Student Council Officer Applications Due Online 9/26

Student Council

It’s election season here at WFES! Responsible fourth, fifth, and sixth graders who are looking to take on a leadership role in our school’s SCA are encouraged to apply to run for student council office. Homeroom teachers have posted the application/permission form and all additional SCA information on their homeroom Schoology. Applications are due on Monday, 9/26 by 4:00pm. All applications are accepted digitally. If your student has any questions please direct them to email Mrs. Rowader at clrowader@fcpsschools.net.

PTA Volunteers Needed

Assemblies: Work closely with the front office to help to plan assemblies at the school - after two long years, they're back!

Odyssey of the Mind (co-chair): Let's help our kiddos think outside of the box to expand their problem-solving and group work skills! Erin Weber will be running OTM this school year (thank you, Erin!), but she'd love a co-chair to help her bring this enriching program to WFES this school year. https://www.odysseyofthemind.com/

Reflections (Chair/co-chairs): Reflections is an art program run by your local, state, and national PTA. This commitment occurs early in the year and will be completed by early November.

Spelling Bee (Chair/co-chairs): The Spelling Bee is a winter/early spring event held at Wakefield Forest that gives a pedestal to some truly talented kiddos. Work with our wonderful librarians to make this year a success!

S.T.E.A.M. Fair (Chair/co-chairs): The S.T.E.A.M. Fair is back! If you have an interest in running an event at WFES that helps out kiddos to stretch their STEAM muscles, this might be the right job for you.

FCPS Seeking Outstanding Substitutes

We are experiencing substitute shortages at Wakefield Forest.

FCPS and WFES are seeking individuals to serve as substitute teachers, instructional assistants, public health training assistants, and public health attendants! You will find information about the application process here. You can also attend one of the Wednesday information sessions to learn more about the application and hiring process.

To sign up for an information session, please visit our substitute information page here. Please feel free to share information about this opportunity with anyone else you think may be interested.

Socktober is Near...

Socks

5th grade was inspired by a Positivity Project video and decided to take action and do a sock drive with happysocktober.com.

New Hope Housing in Alexandria serves 1500 adults every year and would love to get our help with keeping their people warm this winter.

Over the first two weeks of October, our 5th graders will be collecting new socks in the library and the front office.

Help us reach our goal of donating 500 pairs of new adult-size socks to people experiencing homelessness.
