Class of 2023 Senior Parent Night - Thursday September 22

Hayfield’s Student Services team is excited to work with your senior as they finish their time as a Hawk and plan for their future.

Starting this week, counselors are meeting with seniors both as a group and individually to discuss graduation requirements, senior goals, and their plan for life after high school.

Please join us on Thursday evening, September 22nd for Senior Parent Night. This year’s event will offer breakout sessions for families to hear the information that’s most important to them.  All families should plan to attend the main session from 7:00- 7:30 in the Auditorium.

6:00 – 6:50 p.m. Military Options (Middle School Lecture Hall):  Military recruiters will discuss opportunities available in their respective branches.

6:00 – 6:50 p.m. Career Training and Apprenticeships (Career Center): Representatives from Va. Department of Labor (Apprenticeship), FCPS Adult & Community Education, and Year Up will present opportunities available for participants in their program.

7:00 – 7:30 p.m. Main Presentation (Auditorium):  Counselors will discuss graduation requirements and other information. Representatives from All Night Grad Party and our Senior Class Sponsor will also share updates. Yearbook staff will be available in the main lobby from 6:45- 7:45 p.m.

7:30 – 8:15 p.m. Applying to Two- and Four- Year Colleges (Auditorium)Counselors will review college application procedures and upcoming college programming. A representative from Northern Virginia Community College will also present information about NOVA.

Families are welcome to stay for the entire evening, but we hope this format allows you the flexibility to come for the portions of the evening that best fit your student’s needs.

We look forward to seeing you on September 22nd and partnering with you and your senior for success this school year and beyond!

Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist (SAPS) Introduction

Each school pyramid has a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist (SAPS) assigned to provide substance abuse prevention, education, and intervention services. Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists are part of the FCPS Office of Student Safety and Wellness.  The Hayfield Pyramid SAPS is:

Key roles of a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist:

  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug education for students, parents, and the Fairfax County Community
  • Intervention services upon violation of the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook or suspected substance use involvement
  • Assessing a student’s level of substance use and, if appropriate, making referrals to the Fairfax Community Service Board for additional services or other community resources as appropriate
  • Group and individual prevention services for students, staff, parents, and the Fairfax County community
  • Most importantly, building positive relationships with students to provide support and encouragement
