Preschool students practice recognizing and naming emotions in their Social and Emotional Learning.
Tomorrow is a teacher workday for all staff. There is no school for students. We look forward to seeing your child again on Tuesday, September 27 at 9:00.
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow! The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Visit FCPS’ Attendance web page for tips and strategies.
Our School Counselors, Mrs. Kramer and Ms. Cate teach classroom counseling lessons to all students. During these lessons, students learn different skills like how to prevent bullying, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, growth mindset, and empathy. Counselors also hold small groups for students to work on specific skills like making friends, social skills, or managing anxiety. Counselors can also meet with students individually, as needed. There are many ways for families to connect our lessons at home, such as having open conversations about how your child is feeling, perhaps asking how they helped someone at school today, or having a conversation about their strengths. Reinforce and model positive self-talk and growth mindset with your child, for example what they can tell themselves when they feel stressed? Additionally, you could ask about a goal they have for themselves, what they want to be when they grow up and how they can work towards that goal. It is also a great idea to play games with your child to help them learn problem solving and fairness.
Hi Families! Every year, each school must have a committee of parents and teachers who are willing to review challenged materials. When a book is challenged, part of the process involves parents and teachers reading the book and sharing their recommendations about the book with FCPS. We are looking for one or two parents who are NOT FCPS employees, who would be available to be part of this committee. If interested, please email Christine Watson at clwatson@fcps.edu. We appreciate your support!
Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, Mrs. Cathy Trope, will be hosting an Information Session on Tuesday, September 27 at 5:30 p.m. This session will be concurrent, meaning families are welcome to come to the library or participate virtually.
The link for families who want to participate virtually is HERE.
