Advanced Academic Program and Level IV Screening Information Night
Tuesday, October 4th
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Location: Sangster Cafeteria
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development efforts and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners. FCPS offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in Grades K-12. The continuum of services approach recognizes unique student needs and focuses on matching services, not labeling students. Through the continuum, students have multiple entry points for deeper learning opportunities in specific areas of need as they develop and a cluster group of students with similar academic needs to continue growing in their learning.
If you’re interested in learning more about FCPS’ AAP program, including an overview of the AAP Continuum of services for all students and/or information regarding the screening process for the full-time Level IV AAP program, please join us for the AAP Information Night on Tuesday, October 4th.
Parents will learn how to refer students in grades 2-6 for the full-time Level IV Advanced Academics Program for the 2023-2024 school year and have the opportunity to ask questions.
If you have any questions, please contact our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, Linda Biberaj (LBiberaj@fcps.edu).

Information and Emergency Care Forms
The Health Information Form (HIF) (SS/SE -71) Health Information Form and the Emergency Care Information form (SS/SE-3) Emergency Care Information provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. These forms are critical in the early identification of students who may need healthcare support in the educational environment. Along with the development of Healthcare Plans (HCP) and Action Plans, the Public Health Nurses (PHNs) utilize the information contained in the HIF to develop teaching strategies for FCPS staff in order to meet the requirements of Regulation 2104 Health Services-School Health Related Needs.
For SY 22-23, these forms will be required for all students. Parents/guardians may submit these forms either through electronic submission accessed within the weCare@school module; or thorough Back to School packets for those families without ParentVue accounts.
Please contact your child's teacher with questions about these forms.
Student Rights & Responsibilities (SR&R) Family Signature September 30th
FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Each year, parents/guardians must review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.
Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.
Please contact the school office if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.
Parental Consent for Digital Resources
At Sangster, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://sangsteres.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.
Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to Erin Gayzik, Sangster’s School Based Technology Specialist, at emgayzik@fcps.edu if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Positivity Project - Week of September 12
This week’s character strength is Open-Mindedness. You show this strength when you like to consider new ideas and try new things. You examine things from all sides and don’t jump to conclusions. Open-minded individuals are often good listeners and called upon to provide a balanced viewpoint. Both listening and the ability to deliver reasonable and practical advice are marks of good friends and confidantes. This strength helps individuals form meaningful and lasting relationships.
The site P2 For Families is available for connecting P2 to your home and you can learn more about the site here. Many of the slides are password protected and the password is P2 (case-sensitive).
Next week’s character strength: The Other People Mindset – being present and giving others my attention
