Belvedere News and Announcements - September 16, 2022

From the Administration

Dear Belvedere Family:

We have completed the first month of school!  Can you believe it?  So much is happening at Belvedere as students engage in units of inquiry focused on a central idea.  Below you can see the central ideas and focus students are currently exploring across grade levels:

Unit of Inquiry Central Idea

Our bodies help us learn.

Students are finishing up learning about routines and school. They are moving into Me and Myself – what can my body do? What do I like?

People help each other and work together in a community.

Students are exploring attributes and patterns. The students are also inquiring about ways people work together, showing how they are caring

Our responsibilities and actions impact communities.

Students are considering how individuals help communities function and the various responsibilities.

Within a system, every part has a role to play.

Students are exploring systems in nature and in math. They are considering how parts impact a system.

We observe change to understand ourselves and our world.

The students are exploring forms of change and learning about observation and analysis in science, math, music, PE, and art.

People value and use the land for different purposes.

Students are learning about indigenous people and about human connections to the natural world.

Critical reflection and action transform our ideas and communities.

Students are exploring how experimentation for understanding is something they can do in specials as well as in writing, math, and science.

The Title I central office will facilitate a virtual What is Title I? Annual Title I Meeting for all 42 Title I schools. Parents and guardians  are invited to attend to learn more about Title I.

The Annual Title I Meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, September 20th from 7:00-8:15 p.m. on the zoom link:

Please find the Zoom link for your child's grade level below:

Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Overview Night!

Please join Mrs. Lynch, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, to learn about the different Advanced Academic Programs, or AAP, in Fairfax County Public Schools. Fairfax County Public Schools offers different levels of service of Advanced Academic Programs for students K-12 that build upon students' individual strengths and skills and maximizes academic potential for all learners. Information will also be provided about our Young Scholars’ Program.

The session will be held virtually on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 6:00 and Spanish interpretation will be provided. Please plan to attend so that you can learn about the Advanced Academics Programs’ levels of service, including Young Scholars, that FCPS has to offer. A session link will be available closer to the date. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Lynch at

For an overview of the continuum of AAP services, click here. The overview is also available in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Urdu, and Vietnamese.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Visit FCPS’ Attendance web page for tips and strategies.

Parental Permission to Use Digital Resources

Some of the digital resources your child may use this year require parental consent for student use.  Parents must visit the Digital Resources at Belvedere site for information and to provide consent for use. Your child will not have access to certain resources and tools until your consent is provided.

SR&R Signature Sheet Due September 30

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/caregiver with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/caregiver’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.
Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30.

Visit the SIS Parentvue Account Overview page for help logging in to your account.
