Dear Freedom Hill Community,
We start off our weekend newsletter by saying a big THANK YOU to everyone who made our Back to School Picnic a big success! Thank you to Tina Helwig for the great organization, our PTA for having some fun activities for us, and to all of our parents, staff, and students who attended. We had a blast seeing everyone and meeting our new FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Reid. These events only happen with your support - please join the PTA again this year by seeing the information in the PTA section below.
Thanks also for your participation last week in the Kindergarten "Color Days". Two days remain:
Monday, 9/12 - Purple
Tuesday, 9/13 - Orange
As always, please reach out at any time if we can support your family.
In partnership,
Nicholas Zapadka, Principal
Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

Tuesday is our first (virtual) PTA meeting of the year. We encourage families to attend to hear the latest on what is happening at Freedom Hill, and how you can be involved! We will also be asking for feedback on what topics would be helpful for staff presentations / information sessions this year. The link for the meeting is in the PTA section below. |
The Fall Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) will be taking place at Freedom Hill from 9/19-10/7. This is a content-based assessment for 3-6 grade students in math and reading. The assessments will start around 9:30 each morning so please have your child arrive on time. A letter with further details will be coming home in this week’s Wednesday folder. To learn more information about the Virginia Growth Assessment, please visit this website. If you have any questions about the VGA, please email Mr. Kopacz.
We ask that your family try their best to avoid appointments and absences on testing dates:
The 2022-23 FCPS budget provided funds for additional staffing to provide recess coverage for our classroom teachers. This will allow them to have additional planning time each day, which will result in even more meaningful instruction and parent communication. In order to make this vision a reality, we are still in need of hiring one additional student monitor. Please consider applying. Hours are flexible, but we are looking for an individual who can work during our lunchtimes of 11-1:30 daily.
In addition, we have also been allocated an additional General Education Instructional Assistant position for the school year. This is a full time position. We are looking for an individual who is comfortable working with all Freedom Hill students on a variable schedule each day.
Resumes and emails of interest for both positions can be sent to Dr. Zapadka.
We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year!
The FCPS updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.
Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.
Please contact us if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.
CHECK OUT FALL ENRICHMENT We are so excited to introduce before and after school enrichment classes to you. This is a great opportunity for your kids to check out activities like PE Club, Lego Jedi Engineering, All Kids Sports, Musical Theater, Spanish, Soccer, Chess, Cooking and Scratch Jr (STEM). All classes are conveniently at Freedom Hill before or after school. Registration is open and closes Tuesday, September 20th at 11:59 PM. More details on the flier. For more information, visit the site for class descriptions.
