Early Literacy Program
School readiness is the key to student success and parent empowerment. The Early Literacy Programs are entirely FREE for Fairfax County residents. These interactive parenting programs were developed for parents of children from birth to five that promote essential early literacy skills pertinent for student success. The program helps to build confidence in parents as their child's first teacher and increases the capacity to become active partners in their child's education.
Children participate in fun "school-like" experiences using a 37 topic curriculum that is aligned with evidence based instruction. Classes meet 2 times per week and are taught in the parent's home language or English by trained instructors.
Topics include but are not limited to:
- brain development
- developmental stages
- importance of routines
- effective discipline strategies
- the importance of play and music
Instructors provide information, demonstrations, resources, and literacy support as well as the opportunity for parents and children to engage in early literacy activities together. Our Early Literacy programs are available in African-Heritage/English, Arabic/English, Spanish, and Korean.

When Should a Student Stay Home?
Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit our site for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and your school.
Whether students are absent because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss. Remember: Attend today, achieve tomorrow!
