Franklin MS Weekly Update - September 9

Franklin Families and Students,

Good Afternoon. It is hard to believe that we are at the end of our third week of the school year! We appreciate all of the hard work from our staff, our families, and our students that have helped get us to this point. I continue to be extremely proud of all our FMS Falcons.

Thank you to all of the FMS community members who were able to join us for the Virtual Back to School Night event earlier this week. If you were unable to attend, the resources shared at this session can be found at the links below.

You are also encouraged to take the opportunity to view welcome videos from our School Board Members.

We would like to ask for your help with completing the Digital ResourcesConsent Form as soon as possible for your student. This will allow your student to access all of the online instructional resources this year. If you have multiple children, you will need to complete the form for each child individually. Thank you for your help with completing this important form.

Finally, please take a few minutes to learn more about the Franklin MS PTA and Membership Drive by visiting their website. The Franklin MS Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the educational success and overall wellness of every student at Franklin MS by encouraging strong parent, family and community involvement.  Please click here to join the PTA!

All FMS families are always encouraged to reach out to me directly at dpwright@fcps.edu if there is anything we can do to support your student.

I hope that all of you have a safe, healthy and enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

World Language Credit Exam

The exam assesses reading and writing language proficiency in languages other than English. Students who take the exam may earn up to three World Languages credits for levels one, two, and three for the language of the exam. The credits may fulfill the World Languages requirements for the Advanced Studies Diploma. The FCPS World Languages Credit Exam is also an approved assessment for awarding the Virginia Department of Education’s Seal of Biliteracy. The exam is offered one time per school year. A student may participate in the exam two times per language, once per year, between grades 7 through 12. In other words, students have two chances per language to earn credits by taking the exam.

The exam is available for students in grades 7 through 12 who have proficiency in one of these 30 languages.  Students must be able to read and comprehend exam instructions and writing prompts in the exam language and respond to the writing prompts in the language of the exam.

The exam is paper-pencil and students will respond in their own handwriting in the language of the exam. Students earn credit based on the level of proficiency demonstrated by their writing.

All students must register for the exam through their school counselor. Registration opens Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 8:00 AM and closes on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 4:00 PM. Late registrations will not be accepted. Please click here for more information.
