Important Information

Families, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Herndon High School, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://herndonhs.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to our School Based Technology Specialist, Mrs Smith (liz.smith@fcps.edu), if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year. This form needs to be signed at the start of each school year.

Senior Dues

Attention Class of 2023! It has taken you a lot of work and effort to get to this place- GRADUATION is around the corner. There will be many events and adventures throughout the year to celebrate.

This year, Senior Dues will be $60 per student. You can pay through your MySchoolBucks account, or by check or cash. If you chose the latter, please bring your check ( made out to Herndon HS Class of 23) or cash to Ms. Mejia in the main office. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Cronin at school or pscronin@fcps.edu.

Schedule Change Process

Herndon school counselors spend considerable time assisting students with their selection of appropriate courses.  Since all decisions regarding staffing, instructional supplies, etc. are made based on those selections, change requests will be accommodated only under limited circumstances. The following schedule change process will be in place for the 2022-23 school year.

  • September 12-23, 2022 - No movement
  • After September 26, 2022 - No elective course changes are permitted. Schedule change requests for core courses are reviewed if the Schedule Change Request Form is completed by the student and parent/guardian, Communication with teacher must be made prior to the request and documented on this form. Additionally, approval must be given by the subject administrator of the course and room is available in the requested course. The current teacher is provided the opportunity to discuss the reality of the course with the student and parent/guardian, so they do not make a decision based on inaccurate first impressions. Schedule change requests can be made to the school  counselor for the following reasons:
    • A student would like to challenge themselves academically and go up a level (from regular to honors) in a core course.
    • A student is experiencing academic difficulty in a core course and would like to go down a level (from AP to honors).

Anonymous Tip Line Puts Safety First

If you or your child have concerns or information relating to feeling unsafe in any way at school, we encourage you to reach out to a member of the security or administrative team so that we may quickly address the issue.  Students and parents may also utilize the FCPS Office of Safety and Security safety tip line, that you can access anonymously online, by text (888-777; Keyword TIP FCPS), or by phone (571-423-2020).

If your tip is an emergency and immediate assistance is necessary, please dial 911.

Students, staff, and community members should report school safety issues such as threats, unsafe or dangerous situations, illegal drug activity, theft, gang activity, the existence of weapons, vandalism, and concerns about student wellness. Tip line users may identify themselves or remain anonymous.

Concerns that do not impact the safety of our schools—concerns or information about programs, regulations, or policies—can be sent to the FCPS ombudsman online, at 571-423-4014, or ombudsman@fcps.edu
