Haycock Hello 9.12.22

umbrella

Dear Haycock Families,

Thank you to all parents who joined us for the two parent coffees last week. Here are the presentation slides we used.

Our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students met in their band or strings instrument specials groups for the first time last week.  We have lots of excited musicians in our midst!

This week, we will honor all those who face or who have faced childhood cancer by wearing gold or pajamas on Thursday, September 15.  This is a day being organized by McLean HS students for all schools in our pyramid.

September is also Attendance Awareness Month. Some of the ways parents can help their children create healthy routines and a habit of getting to school on time every day include:

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
  • When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Visit the FCPS website for more attendance resources. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Finally, please make sure that you have submitted the Health Information Form (one for every student) and the Emergency Care Information (complete only if there is a change) for your student if you haven't already done so.  These forms can also be accessed through weCare@school

With appreciation for your partnership,

Dr. Liz Beaty, Principal   embeaty@fcps.edu

Student Rights and Responsibilities

We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year!

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.

Please contact us if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt-out forms are available online for Elementary (K-6).  Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at the link above. FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology.  Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account.  Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media).  Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Program questions may be addressed at Haycock by contacting the assistant principals, Heather Boyd (haboyd@fcps.edu) and Jody Delaney (jmdelaney@fcps.edu) or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu
