Hello Scottie Families!  What a treat to see so many of our students and staff (family members, too!) dressed in Bonnie Brae blue and white today for our first spirit day of the year!  A reminder that there is no school on Friday, September 2, and Monday, September 5 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.  

Thank you for partnering with us to ensure we have had a fantastic first two weeks, and we hope everyone has a fun extended weekend with their family!

Volunteer Information

Fall picture day is Tuesday, September 6 and we are in need of 3-5 parent volunteers! Volunteers will help organize classes when they arrive to the gym, hand out picture day portrait cards, and help the day run smoothly. Lifetouch will be onsite from 8:30-3:00 PM.

Color Week!

Join us each day from Tuesday, September 6 until Friday, September 16 by wearing the colors of the day here at BBES. Kindergarten will be learning their colors the next two weeks and would love for all Scotties throughout the building in Grades K-6 to participate in wearing the color noted above if possible. Thank you for your support of our young learners!

Superintendent Community Conversations-Invitation Messaging

Please save the date for a very special event! Dr. Michelle Reid, FCPS superintendent, will host a Community Conversation at Robinson Secondary School on Thursday, September 29, 6:30-7:30 p.m. This event will be a unique opportunity to help Dr. Reid get to know our school community and learn more about her vision for our district.

COVID Diagnostic Testing

COVID-19 diagnostic testing is available at no cost for all currently enrolled FCPS students on select dates throughout the year when transmission may be highest. Diagnostic testing is provided at designated times and locations for those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.

Testing will be available September 6-8 and 12-14. Visit the testing website for information on locations and how to register for an appointment. 


Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  

  • If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms were included in your child’s back-to-school/orientation packets and are available online for Elementary (K-6)
  • Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6).
  • A preview of the FLE Curriculum can be found on our BBES Parent Schoology Course.
  • Program questions may be addressed by contacting our FLE lead, Chris Orahood  at CKOrahood@fcps.edu, or FCPS Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or fle@fcps.edu.

BBES Parent Course on Schoology

You may have seen your students utilizing Schoology, our schoolwide Learning Management System. Did you know that we also have a Bonnie Brae ES Parent Schoology Course, too? There, you can find lots of helpful information and notices that we put out throughout the year. It is also a great place to access the links for our Parent Coffee and PTO Meetings. We hope to use this platform to house many items going forward.

Health Information and Emergency Care Forms

The Health Information Form (HIF) (SS/SE -71) Health Information Form and the Emergency Care Information form (SS/SE-3) Emergency Care Information provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. 

For SY 22-23, these forms will be required for all students. Parents/guardians may submit these forms either through electronic submission accessed within the weCare@school (weCare) module; or thorough Back to School packets for those families without ParentVue accounts.


SR&R

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS).

  • Please review, sign, and return the SR&R to Bonnie Brae in ParentVue. 
  • Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.


Digital Resource Consent

At Bonnie Brae Elementary, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources. Please complete these forms so your child is able to access all resources.

Screen Activity Report for Parents

FCPS has tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. You can submit your order here: BBES 2022 Spirit-Wear Order Form (google.com) Please make sure you also submit payment via paypal or contact president@bonniebraepto.org if you prefer to pay via cash. Sales are open 26 August- 6 September. 

We do have a limited inventory of child sizes in our Blue Scottie Dog shirt. Please reach out to president@bonniebraepto.org if you are interested in that style. 


PTO Meeting Reminder

The PTO will meet the third Thursday of each month at 7pm. We will meet via Zoom to enable the broadest participation as possible! Please join us for the first meeting on September 15th.
