Spirit Week | Homecoming
Spirit Week and Homecoming are early this year, Sept 6-10! The Student Government Association and Class Officers plan daily spirit activities throughout the week, culminating in the Homecoming Game on Sept 9 and the Homecoming Dance on Sept 10.
Spirit Week
Tuesday – Sunburn Snooze (wear your pjs)
Wednesday - Welcome to the Jungle (wear your camo, floral, safari outfits)
Thursday – Country vs. Country Club (either flannels, jeans, boots, etc… or polo shirt, khakis, skirts, etc…)
Friday – Beach Blackout (wear black shirts with beach accessories such as leis, sunglasses, sunhats, etc…)
Get your ticket now for HoCo 2022! The dance is on Sat, Sept 10, 8 - 10:30 pm, in Langley Hall and the Courtyard. Tickets are $20 per student and may be purchased through MySchoolBucks until Fri, Sept 9.
If your student would like to bring a guest who is not enrolled at Langley, they must submit a completed guest form to Mrs. Hamilton or Mrs. Conrad, via their mailboxes in the main office. The form is in the MySchoolBucks link.
Due to the early date of Homecoming this year, t-shirts will not be ready in time for Spirit Week and Homecoming. The new distribution date is in October, in time for the Langley vs. McLean crosstown rivalry football game. The design of the t-shirt will be such that it can be worn throughout the year for any LHS vs MHS event! Pay your student’s Class Activity Fee by Oct 2 to secure their class t-shirt. Don’t forget to indicate their t-shirt size! T-shirts will be ordered on Oct 2, after which no additional orders will be taken. Don’t miss out! Partners in Safe Teen Driving Seminar (PSTD)
As part of the FCPS Health and PE curriculum, all 10th grade students enrolled in Health & PE 10 complete one quarter of classroom Driver Education. As part of the Driver Education curriculum, students are required to attend the Partners in Safe Teen Driving Presentation, in person, with at least one parent or guardian. Successful completion of classroom Driver Education AND attendance by the student and parent/guardian enables the student to obtain the DEC-District 8 completion card needed to pursue obtaining a Virginia driver’s license. While it is recommended that the PSTD seminar requirement be satisfied during the quarter in which the student is taking classroom driver education, students are welcome to attend any quarter within their 10th grade year. All seminars will be held in-person from 6:30-8:00 PM in the auditorium. Please arrive early. Doors will close promptly at 6:30. Attendees who arrive late will not be allowed entry and will not earn credit for attending.
The 90-minute PSTD presentation at Langley High School will be offered on the following dates for the 2022-2023 calendar year:
September 12th
November 15th
February 6th
Important: Students who successfully complete their classroom driver education quarter but have not satisfied the PSTD requirement will have earned an incomplete for the class grade until the requirement is met.
This program is available to FCPS students enrolled in grade 10 health and physical education at no charge. Students who are completing classroom instruction through a commercial driving school, are home schooled, are enrolled in another school division, or are FCPS students in grade 11 or 12 must register to attend the 90-minute PSTD seminar. A $30 fee applies, and registration is available through FCPS Adult and Community Education (aceclasses.fcps.edu).
9th grade only: Expunging HS courses taken in Middle School
Per Regulation 2408, current 9th grade students who have taken a High School Credit bearing course in Middle School may expunge this course from the official transcript should they wish, however this must be done prior to the completion of the first 9 weeks of next year. NO ACTION IS REQUIRED UNLESS YOU WISH TO EXPUNGE THIS GRADE. Should you wish to expunge the following course please complete the “Request to Expunge High School Credit” form, found here: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/is104.pdf.
COVID Diagnostic Testing

Newsletter: COVID-19 diagnostic testing is available at no cost for all currently enrolled FCPS students on select dates throughout the year when transmission may be highest. Diagnostic testing is provided at designated times and locations for those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
Testing will be available September 6-8 and 12-14. Visit the testing website for information on locations and how to register for an appointment.

As we begin the 2022-23 school year, public schools nationwide face a growing student wellness crisis. Our students' wellness challenges impact their ability to perform at their best in the classroom and may lead to other destructive behaviors.
In Northern Virginia, the opioid epidemic continues to impact communities including young adults, and sometimes school-age children. Tragically, this can lead to devastating outcomes. There are three things you can do now, to support student wellness and increase understanding of the dangers of opioids and fentanyl:
- Talk with children and loved ones in your life about the dangers of drug use, especially opioids. For more information, tips on how to recognize and prevent substance abuse, and available support services, watch this webinar.
- Safely store and dispose of medications to prevent drug misuse.
- Sign up for a Virtual REVIVE! training class to learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of opioid overdose and administer naloxone nasal spray to reverse an opioid overdose.

Dr. Michelle Reid is hosting Community Conversations across the division to get to know our communities. Dr. Reid will be at Langley on Wednesday, October 26 from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. For additional information click here.

Prescription drugs must be limited to 30 doses (request additional containers with medication label from your pharmacist for large doses of 60 or 90). Over the counter medications must be limited to 100 doses or less.
