 FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid
Superintendent Community Conversation with Dr. Reid at Chantilly HS
1. From the Principal's Desk
Dear Members of the Chantilly HS Community:
Happy Friday. The start of school continues to go smoothly. We have received a few questions about some of our new initiatives for 2022-2023, and I’m including some feedback to help keep everyone informed (see below). I also want to thank everyone that came to the community conversation with new FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid last night. I thought it was a very beneficial dialogue that helped Dr. Reid and school leaders better understand what’s on everyone’s mind. Remember—tonight is our first home football game, and I encourage everyone to come support the Chargers!
Enjoy the holiday weekend,
Scott
Food Deliveries During the School Day
For safety reasons, please remind your children that food may NOT be delivered (i.e., DoorDash, Uber Eats) to school grounds.
If you are dropping food off for your child, please drop the food at Door 1 and let your child know to pick it up on the cart outside the main office. Students may pick up food parents drop off between classes or during lunch. Any food deliveries that are made to the school will be held on the cart outside the main office until the end of the day for pick up and will be thrown away when the office closes if not picked up.
Cell Phone Policy
Students in grades 9-12: Phones must be silenced and put away during all instructional periods. Phone accessories are also to be silenced and away when phone use is prohibited. Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. Phones can be stored in a locker or backpack during the day. Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency. Teachers may allow usage of cell phones for instructional activities when appropriate. Cell phones may be used on campus before the first bell, after the last bell, during passing periods, and lunches.
The Updates to FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) web page outlines changes to cell phone use for the 2022-2023 school year. Visit the SR&R web page to learn more and to log on to your SIS ParentVue account and sign to acknowledge review of this document OR print, sign, and return this form to your child’s school by September 30, 2022.
Dress Code
FCPS respects students’ right to express themselves in the way they dress. It is important, however, that their appearance is tasteful and appropriate for a K-12 school setting. Discussion about dress code violations shall be held privately and maintain the dignity of the student.
Clothing and accessories should not:
- Display vulgar, discriminatory, or obscene language or images
- Promote illegal or violent conduct
- Contain threats or gang symbols
- Promote the unlawful use of weapons, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or drug paraphernalia
- Expose private parts or show an excessive amount of bare skin (see-through clothing)
- Contain studs or chain belts
eHall Pass
e-Hallpass is a browser-based online system that is used to manage all student passes. This includes passes out of class, tardy passes, check in or out passes, etc.. eHallPass replaces the paper method of administering hall passes. The system enhances school security and helps to simplify classroom management. Teachers log into their system dashboard to monitor and approve passes, and access reporting. Students request passes through eHallPass on their laptops.
2. Weekend Grab Bag
Please Support Chantilly High School's Weekend Grab Bag Using Our Amazon Wish List
An Amazon Wish List for CHS's Weekend Grab Bag has been created for the needs of some of our students. The program provides non-perishable items and a few other items for students who are identified as experiencing food insecurity. We partner with Western Fairfax Christian Ministries (WFCM.) They provide perishable food items and Chantilly provides non-perishable items. Please use the following link Weekend Grab Bag to access the Wish List. You can also drop off donations at Chantilly High School Attn: Dana Condemi. Please use the wish list as a buying guide. You can also share the Wish List link on your social media accounts. Thank you for your support! Questions? Contact Mary Beth at mwalmsley@mpu-1.com.
