Principal's Message - August 29, 2022

August 28, 2022

Stone Parents,

Our first week of school was full of excitement and relationship building activities. Students appear to be comfortable finding their classrooms and abiding by school expectations. Students were given laptops via their science class on Thursday & Friday.   If a student was not able to get their laptop, please have them stop by the tech office in Room 121 to be issued a laptop for the school year. This week will be a  shorter week as we have both Friday, September 2 and Monday, September 5 as holidays for both students and staff.  We will also begin conducting our annual safety drills this week.  Thank you for all your commitment to getting your students here on time this year. It is so important that students arrive at school on time to maximize their learning.

Remember to Bring Your ID When Visiting Stone MS

All visitors and anyone who checks out a student early MUST show their ID to staff when checking in at the main office.

For the safety of our students, they will not be allowed to leave school early with any adult unless a driver’s license, passport, or government issued ID is shown.

Attendance Information

If your student needs to arrive late or will be absent, please call the attendance line at 703-631-5555 (English) or 703-631-5578 (Spanish)

Stone Annual Career Day

Students today are both excited and nervous about their life after high school. While still dreaming of what the future may hold, they must also map out a future for themselves that is both in line with their career interests and their educational expectations.

  • Career Day gives students an up-close look at different  career paths and connects their learning to the real world.
  • Community members and leaders can share insights about their career and details about necessary education and training for career success.

We are in the beginning stages of planning for our Stone Career day, which will be on Nov 22, 2022. This form is simply an interest form and is not a commitment as of yet, but please SAVE THE DATE as we get closer, more info will follow.

If you are interested in participating as a speaker please complete this form

If you have any questions regarding Career Day, please contact Armando Garcia at 703-631-5523 or agarcia1@fcps.edu

COVID Updates

Recently, FCPS sent an update on COVID-19 layered prevention strategies that will continue to be in place this school year. While we had hoped that the pandemic would be behind us, it seems that COVID will be something we must manage as a community for the foreseeable future. FCPS will continue to follow the guidance of national, state, and local health experts when determining the layered prevention strategies that are needed to keep our schools safe and open for learning. It is important that we all work together towards this goal.

Highlights from that guidance include:

  • FCPS continues to require families to review the Daily Health Screening before sending students to school.
  • The 5 Day Isolation Period will continue for COVID positive students and staff.
  • The CDC recommends the COVID vaccine as a safe and effective way of significantly lowering your risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death if you get infected. Vaccines are now available for our youngest students. However, COVID vaccines are not part of the required immunizations for school entry.
  • At this time, masks are not required. The current CDC COVID-19 Community Level for Fairfax County is low. However, should the community level rise to “high,” FCPS would then require all students, staff, and visitors to wear a face covering when indoors on school property (to include the buildings, school buses and other school provided vehicles; except while actively eating/drinking). The Code of Virginia allows parents/legal guardians to elect for their child not to wear a face covering while on school property.
  • Diagnostic testing will be available beginning Tuesday, August 16, for FCPS students and staff who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19. Information on diagnostic testing will continue to be updated on our website.
  • FCPS will no longer send a daily or weekly COVID case update. Parents/Guardians will only receive an email from their child’s school when several cases of COVID-19 occur in a single classroom, sports team, or extracurricular activity within a 14-day period. Individual case reports will be available on the FCPS COVID-19 Dashboard on our website.

To stay up to date, please continue to review FCPS Health and Safety Guidance.

Have a great week, Stone Community,

Sonya Williams
