WSES Students and Artwork

WSES friends stand in front of student artwork during the first week of school. Students from all grade levels created their own unique portion of a flower. #WillowPride

Willow Springs families,

We had a fantastic first week back with our children! Our hallways are full of energy and excitement!

Teachers and staff have kicked off the school year with read-aloud stories, collaborative community builders, morning meetings, and more. Our Willow Family is together and stronger than ever, and we could not be more excited about what's to come.

We hope to see all of our families tonight at our first PTA-sponsored movie night. Hula lessons will begin at 6 p.m., and the movie will start at 7:30 p.m. This event will be the perfect way to end a fabulous first week of school.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend connecting with your children as they share all of their first-week experiences. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dylan Taylor, Principal

Lesley Hassen, Assistant Principal

Ipsa Stringer, Assistant Principal

Buses and Delays

Please be aware that all of us are getting used to new routines at the start of the school year. Thank you for your patience as those routines are established.

If a student’s bus is delayed, parents may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. E-Notify (School Messenger) email messages will also be sent to announce significant bus delays. Contact the Transportation Office at 703-249-7000. For any concerns after hours (after 5:30 p.m.), contact Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.

PickUp Patrol: Important Reminders

PickUp Patrol

Willow Springs uses PickUp Patrol for parents to report absences, late arrivals, and early pick-ups.

WSES values PickUp Patrol as it ensures a safe dismissal for all students based on the child's default plan. Please use the link here.

Numbers after WC are the bus#, 05 in this example: Bus Route WC05AMAOB.

To update your child's default plan to "virtual", "bus rider", "kiss and ride", or "walker," simply log in and select a dismissal option. Then hit submit and that’s it! Your child's teacher and the main office will be notified. Updating your child's default plan is a one-time action. Use PickUp Patrol regularly to report a plan change, absence, late arrival, or early pick-up. A default plan is NEEDED for all students.

RETURNING PARENTS: Please enter and confirm your students default plan here: https://app.pickuppatrol.net/parents

NEW PARENTS: You will receive a registration email

Please contact our main office if you do not have an active account and require a new welcome activation email.

2022 Student Rights & Responsibilities Includes Cell Phone Usage Update

cell phone policy

The Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. Read the Letter from the Superintendent on the 2022-23 Student Rights and Responsibilities: A Guide for Families. Key changes to the document for the 2022-23 school year include:

  • Adding rights to protect citizenship and immigration status from unauthorized sharing.
  • Changes to FCPS’ Acceptable Use Policy Regulation for Technology.
  • A new section on cell phones.

The new section on cell phones prohibits cell phone use in classrooms. We recognize that this new policy will be a shift for many students and families this year, but research shows that managing phone use during class time will support students’ attention and ability to fully engage in their learning. Schools are partnering with parents to have students understand the importance of putting their phones away to minimize distractions during class.

Students in K-8 must keep phones silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day unless there is a medical need or emergency, or teachers have allowed the usage of cell phones for instructional activities where they are the most appropriate tool. Cell phones may only be used on campus before and after school.
