Upcoming Events

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT - August 31, 6:30 pm

All parents are invited to attend Back to School Night (BTSN) on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, from 6:30 – 8:50 pm. Students will bring home a copy of their schedule for parents to follow during BTSN.  They will receive their schedules during TA on August 31.  If you do not receive your student’s schedule, please see one of the counselors near the main office on the evening of Wednesday, August 31, for a printed copy.  All parents should be in their student’s first-period class at 6:30 pm.  Students are welcome to attend BTSN as interpreters for their parents if necessary.

We also encourage parents to attend our pre-BTSN activities in the cafeteria from 5:30 – 6:20 pm.  During that time, parents will have the opportunity to sign up for an SIS Parent Account and Schoology, pre-order a yearbook, get information from various student clubs and organizations, buy Herndon spirit gear, buy water and/or light snacks, support their child’s class through various fundraisers, and more.  If you would like to reserve a table for pre-BTSN activities, email Jane Russell at jwrussell@fcps.edu by August 26th.  At 5:30 pm, we will have a session for Spanish-speaking families about the ESOL program in the lecture hall and an information session about Family Life Education and opt-out in the auditorium.

We look forward to seeing you at Herndon High School on August 31!

HERNDON BAND TAG DAY FUNDRAISER!

Saturday, September 10, 2022

“Pride of Herndon” is a familiar sight this time of the year in Herndon. After all, we are the oldest school band in Fairfax County! It all started in 1947 with only a few students, and here we are in 2022 celebrating 75th of this amazing program.

Tag Day is the band's largest fundraiser. Donations help reduce student fees and pay for master instructors, uniforms, instrument maintenance, invitational performances and more.

On Saturday, September 10, all Herndon Band and Guard students, dressed in their uniforms, will fan out across the Herndon High School District to share information about the Band Program, while asking for donations. Our goal is to reach every neighborhood in the school district, so if this is where you live, you are likely to see them!

Support them with a donation, honk, and a wave. Sharing this message with friends, alumni and family near and far would also be appreciated.

Schedule Change Process

Herndon school counselors spend considerable time assisting students with their selection of appropriate courses.  Since all decisions regarding staffing, instructional supplies, etc. are made based on those selections, change requests will be accommodated only under limited circumstances. The following schedule change process will be in place for the 2022-23 school year.

  • August 4-19, 2022 - Schedule changes if space is available.
  • August 22-29, 2022 - No changes due to membership
  • August 30-September 9, 2022 - Changes are allowed if space is available.  No class caps will be raised to accommodate schedule changes.
  • September 12-23, 2022 - No movement
  • After September 26, 2022 - No elective course changes are permitted. Schedule change requests for core courses are reviewed if the Schedule Change Request Form is completed by the student and parent/guardian, Communication with teacher must be made prior to the request and documented on this form. Additionally, approval must be given by the subject administrator of the course and room is available in the requested course. The current teacher is provided the opportunity to discuss the reality of the course with the student and parent/guardian, so they do not make a decision based on inaccurate first impressions. Schedule change requests can be made to the school  counselor for the following reasons:
    • A student would like to challenge themselves academically and go up a level (from regular to honors) in a core course.
    • A student is experiencing academic difficulty in a core course and would like to go down a level (from AP to honors).

Class of Facebook Groups

HHS parents and students please be sure to join your Class of Facebook groups.  It will be one of your first stops to get information and answer questions about HHS and more.  Make sure to answer all of the vetting questions and agree to the group rules in order for your request to be reviewed.  Thank you!

Senior Immunization Requirement Notice

The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).

Effective July 1, 2021 all students entering twelfth grade will be required to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) administered at age 16 or older, and prior to the beginning of school.

Seniors cannot begin school in August without proper Meningococcal documentation.

Please provide one of the following documents to Herndon High School as soon as possible:

  2. A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the Meningococcal vaccine was given.
  3. A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  4. A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online here

Immunizations are available from your student's healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department clinic locations and hours are available online at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/immunization/school or by calling 703-246-2411.

Please contact Mrs. Barr at bsbarr@fcps.edu or 810.2306 if you have any questions.

Be Wise, Immunize! Required Vaccines for 2022-23 School Year

Vaccinations are required for public school entry and help keep students protected from serious diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood vaccinations over recent years because of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and ready for school. Check with your students’ health care providers now to make sure they are up to date on their vaccines.

Appointments are required for most vaccination clinics. Don’t wait until the last minute when you might not be able to find an appointment. Visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of clinics or schedule with your family’s health care provider.

Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations to provide to their school. More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.
