Dear Fairhill Families,

Yesterday we welcomed back your children and our students for the 2022-2023 school year.  It was wonderful to see so many returning friends along with our new Fairhill Tigers.  Thank you to our parents who helped prepare your children for and celebrate Day #1!  We know you had some great conversations in the evening about school. The Fairhill community is a special place for families.

Our teachers have worked hard to prepare their classrooms for a great year of learning. Everyone is already building positive relationships and routines.  We have included some photographs from our first two days for you to enjoy.

We are sending home Tuesday Folders today with every child.  It is important to read the papers that come home with these Tuesday Folders as they contain both student work and crucial information from Fairhill and FCPS.  Also, please read this newsletter in it's entirety to ensure you receive all communication and information from Fairhill and FCPS.

 Take care,

Tim Stanley                   Courtney Korb

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Parent/Guardian

Required Signature

We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year!

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVUE, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.

Click here for a pdf copy that you can save and print or save and email to ackane@fcps.edu.

Please contact Fairhill's Main Office if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.

Information about SIS ParentVUE Accounts

The Student Information System (SIS) ParentVUE Account allows parents to access attendance information, transportation information, along with progress reports, and also serves as the parent’s Schoology username and password once activated. Visit the SIS ParentVUE information page on the Fairhill Website to learn more about signing in, setting up an account for the first time, access a variety of help documents, and request support from Fairhill if needed.

For additional information about SIS ParentVUE Accounts, please visit the FCPS information page.

food

Cafeteria, Food, and Treats

We look forward to a future date where parents may enjoy lunch with their student, but at this time we are not allowing visitors into the Cafeteria.

Fast food is also discouraged at Fairhill.  The cafeteria has nutritious food for all students.  In order to be equitable we will not accept fast food deliveries for your student.

Please only send non food birthday treats to celebrate with your student's class.  There are many food allergies in classrooms and sugary treats can be disruptive to learning.

Thank you for your cooperation as we look forward to a happy and health school year!

Immunizations for 2022-2023 School Year

As we begin to look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, we encourage everyone to Be Wise, Immunize! Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.

We encourage you to check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.

Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations and bring that to Fairhill as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us at 703-208-8100.

Medication Drop Off

If you have a student who will need medication during the school day, please note that Susan Apgar, our Clinic Aid will be available on Wednesday, August 24th of this week.

If you can, please call Ms. Apgar in advance at 703 208-8110.

Thank you!

Positivity Project

The mission of the Positivity Project is to empower America’s youth to build positive relationships by understanding, appreciating, and exemplifying the character strengths in us all. People who have strong positive relationships do five things consistently - these are the five practices of the Other People Mindset. 1. Recognize the good in other people, 2. Recognize that everything you say or do affects other people, 3. Support others when they struggle, 4. Cheer people on when they succeed, 5. Remain present when giving people your attention. People who have a strong Other People Mindset are able to build and maintain strong, positive relationships with others.

While mental health is incredibly complex, we do know that positive relationships can help people become happier, healthier, and more resilient. And, the Positivity Project believes that educators have a huge opportunity and vital role to play in this endeavor. Our nation’s youth spends a large percentage of their time in school. By deliberately and consistently teaching students that relationships are important -- and that positive relationships are cultivated through character and the Other People Mindset -- educators can roll back these trends and create strong citizens and leaders for our communities and countries.

This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset. This means anything that builds relationships is going to make you happy.
