Principal's Message

It has been so nice to have our students back and watching them settle into the new year. Teachers have been working to help students build relationships, understand expectations for the year and they are starting to assess as we prepare for core instruction.

It was nice to have many families join us for our first cookout and potluck back to school celebration and to have our school board member, Elain Tholen join us. Thank you to eveyone who showed up and for bringing so many great dishes to share. If you left your dish behind, please check with our office so we can get it returned to you.

This Thursday evening we look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night. We will be back in person this year. We will have different sessions to accomodate families with multiple children.

Our next community fun event will be our Kickball Kickoff on September 30th. We could more help from parents to make this a huge success. Please check below for volunteeer needs.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week!

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Positivity Project at Chesterbrook

What is The Positivity Project?

The Positivity Project (P2), is an organization dedicated to empowering America’s youth to build positive relationships by recognizing the character strengths in themselves and others. Their vision is to help schools and families cultivate citizens and leaders who will enhance our communities and country.

At Chesterbrook, P2 is utilized as a school wide endeavor to help build a community of caring, happy, and connected students. It is a holistic model that partners educators, students, and their parents together. As a team, we teach students about character strengths vocabulary, and concepts. The Positivity Project is used in the classroom alongside our House Points System to reinforce these character strengths in our students and build a school defined by positive relationships!

How can you help?

We would love for you to take an active role in your child’s character education by tapping into P2 for Families/P2 Para Familias. We will begin with our intro week for P2 the week of 9/5 and our first trait, curiosity, the week of 9/12.  By using the character strengths vocabulary and having discussions about the concepts at home, you will help your child understand their strengths and be able to recognize the contributions of others. We will share information on P2 throughout the year to help you support your child and engage in family conversations about the character strengths throughout the year and what makes us all unique individuals.

Students Rights & Responsibilities

We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year! This week all students will have an overview of Student Rights and Responsibilities with Mrs. Kirkpatrick and Mrs. Thomas.

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Once you log on, you will see the following message:

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.

Please contact Farris Thomas (fsthomas@fcps.edu)if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.
