Student Rights and Responsibilities Update - Personal Device Away for the Day:

An important update made to the Student Rights & Responsibilities document (SR&R) for the coming school year is the regulation to limit cell phone use during the school day for middle school students. Students will not be permitted to use their cell phones, earbuds, smart watches, and other similar devices during the instructional day from 7:30 AM to 2:15 PM. Phones must be silenced and kept away for the duration of the school day. Storage may be in a locker, backpack, pencil bag, etc., during the day.

We recognize this new policy may be a shift for some students and families this year. Schools are partnering with parents to help students understand the importance of putting their phones away to minimize distractions during class. Please talk to your child(ren) before the start of the school year about these new expectations. Families are encouraged to review the parental controls available for all iPhone and Android users.

Expectations will be emphasized with all students during orientation and beginning of school activities. Thank you for your support and partnership.

Self Guided Open House on August 11

All students and families are welcome to visit our school building for a Self-Guided Open House on Thursday, August 11 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. There will not be a formal presentation and our teachers will not be present during this event. It is simply an opportunity for students and families to visit our building, to become familiar with your new school, and to meet the Administrative and Student Services Teams.

Franklin Welcome Celebration on August 18

We will host a Franklin Welcome Celebration on the afternoon of Thursday, August 18 from 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM for students and families. This will be a fun event where students will have the opportunity to visit all of their classrooms and meet their new teachers. To better provide for parking and to ensure enough time to navigate the building and meet staff, we encourage FMS families to arrive at the time below according to the first letter of your student’s last name.

Immunization Reminders

As we begin to look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, we encourage everyone to Be Wise, ImmunizeImmunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.

Please check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.
