All students-- Need a backpack
Boys -- A box of gallon bags
Girls -- A box of Quart size bags
As we are in preparation for the upcoming school year I wanted to share a few employment opportunities that we have at Lorton Station.
First, we are on the lookout for a fabulous second grade teacher. If you or someone you know has moved into the Lorton or greater Fairfax community and is looking to connect into a school as a teacher please have them contact the school or me at flegagneur@fcps.edu
Second, we are in need of two dining assistants for the school year. The dining assistants help maintain the cafeteria from the hours of approximately 11am-2pm daily. While teachers and staff members are a part of our cafeteria monitoring, our dining assistants help make sure students have everything they need (i.e. napkins, utensils) as well as clean tables and help line students up to leave the cafeteria.
Finally, as FCPS works to support more time for teachers to plan for instruction and collaborate with colleagues, schools have been allotted "student monitor" positions. These positions are 7 hours per day, 5 days a week. The positions will be utilized as needed by the school to help cover classrooms, recess, or other times of the day so that the classroom teacher can address other responsibilities. Lorton Station has been allocated 4 student monitor positions for the 2022-2023 school year and are looking for people who enjoy working with our children and are flexible as day to day needs may change.
The above positions do require full year commitments to help us maintain consistency and routines for students and staff. If you or anyone you know of are interested they can reach out to me at flegagneur@fcps.edu with a resume or questions.
Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year.
Interested families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application ten days prior to the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.
Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes. Schools also benefit from funding opportunities based on Free and Reduced Price Meal application numbers.

As we begin to look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, I encourage everyone to Be Wise, Immunize! Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.
I encourage you to check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.
