Classroom Monitors: Island Creek is looking for several special people to serve as classroom monitors for the 2022-2023 school year! Pay is $15.73/hour. Monitors will work every day students attend school throughout the 2022-2023 school year, and will directly support classrooms by providing teachers with additional planning time. Monitors will be responsible for supervising students. Teachers will provide directions/assignments for monitors and students to complete. This is a wonderful opportunity to support our school throughout the year, and monitors will experience all classroom environments (general education, special education, and specials classes such as art/music/PE). Substitute Teachers: FCPS and Island Creek Elementary need substitute teachers and substitute instructional assistants. Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, retirees, college students, and anyone who wants a flexible work schedule. Like many school districts across the region and country, FCPS is looking for kind and caring substitute teachers to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers need to be out of the building. If you are interested in working as a substitute teacher or a substitute instructional assistant, you are able to set parameters for the days you are available, the grade levels you would like to teach, or the schools where you want to assist!
If you would like to learn more about becoming a substitute teacher or instructional assistant, FCPS is offering virtual information sessions. Sessions are held weekly on Wednesdays from 1-2 p.m. Candidates will receive an email link to the virtual information session the Monday before the session.

 As we begin to look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, Be Wise, Immunize! Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.
We encourage you to check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.
Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations and bring that to the main office as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us at (703) 506-3400.

For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application.

The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-23 school year.
Interested families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.
Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes.
The Island Creek Elementary School PTA is seeking monetary, in-kind, or goods donations from local businesses to sponsor a new event! The Croc Rock-N-Run will take place during the school day on September 30, 2022, and is open to all students. Information about the event will be shared with students in the fall.
