WAKEFIELD FOREST Summer Updates

Registration

We need all new families and kindergarten families to register as soon as possible. Complete registration is critical to our school being fully staffed. Additionally, as a part of renovation we are moving the office this summer, which will make late registrations more challenging. Find out more about registration here or contact Mrs. Holmes at ksholmes@fcps.edu.

Staffing Opportunities

Classroom Monitors: Wakefield Forest is looking for several classroom monitors for the 2022-2023 school year. Monitors will work Monday – Friday from 8:15 AM – 3:45 PM  on the days students are in school. Monitors will be responsible for supervising students in a variety of settings (classrooms, lunch, recess, specials). Teachers will provide directions/assignments for monitors and students. Please let me know if you’re interested in this opportunity and apply here: https://sjobs.brassring.com/TGnewUI/Search/Home/Home?partnerid=25103&siteid=5042#jobDetails=1439810_5042

Substitute Teachers: FCPS and Wakefield Forest will need substitute teachers and substitute instructional assistants this year. Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, retirees, college students, and anyone who wants a flexible work schedule. Like many school districts across the region and country, FCPS is looking for kind and caring substitute teachers to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers need to be out of the building. If you are interested in working as a substitute teacher or a substitute instructional assistant, you are able to set parameters for the days you are available, the grade levels you would like to teach, or the schools where you want to assist!

If you would like to learn more about becoming a substitute teacher or instructional assistant, FCPS is offering virtual information sessions. Sessions are held weekly on Wednesdays from 1-2 p.m. Candidates will receive an email link to the virtual information session the Monday before the session.

  • Upcoming Information Sessions:
  • July 27
  • August 10, 17, 24, 31

Sign up for the information session here.

School Supply Lists

Our 2022-23 school supply lists can be found here. Kindergarteners will be utilizing ipads this year. Headphones purchased for kindergarteners should go over the student’s ears and should have a standard straight jack.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications

For the last two years free breakfast and lunch were provided for all interested families. This year families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year.

Interested families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application ten days prior to the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.

Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes. Schools also benefit from funding opportunities based on Free and Reduced Price Meal application numbers.

Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online. If you have questions or need assistance with the Free and Reduced-Price Meals application, please contact [insert your school’s contact person and their information].

Renovation Update

Our new quads for grades 3-6 and specials are complete and they look great. The older quads have been disassembled and are being removed this week. Most of the playground has been disassembled and work is started to build the temporary office.

Paperless Opt-Outs Available!

As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE.  Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there.  Parents that do not yet have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification. If you need to set up your ParentVUE account, you can create one online via the FCPS ParentVUE Registration page.
