Community Conversations with Dr. Reid

Don’t forget -- Dr. Michelle Reid, FCPS superintendent, will host a Community Conversation at Mount Vernon High School on October 3, 2022 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Language interpretation will be provided, as available, as well as child care and light refreshments. If you plan to attend, please register today using this link.  We hope to see you there!

Senior Portraits

We know some of our seniors were not able to get their senior portraits taken yet.  We are working to add 3 dates to the calendar.  Once we have the dates finalized, we will send information out to all seniors who have not had their pictures taken.  Please watch for information on Schoology and in e-mails from the school.

Challenge Materials Committee Parent Reps Needed

We are still in need of 2 parents/guardians to serve on our Challenged Materials Review Committee.  As detailed in Regulation 3009, principals are required to submit a list of individuals who are available to serve on a Challenged Materials Review Committee if a school committee is needed.  Names of a teacher, librarian, two parents, and two high school students are required. Parents must not be employed by FCPS and contact information should be provided.

The list of potential committee members will be maintained at central office.  Names are randomly chosen to serve if a central departmental committee is required to review a challenged material.

Contact Ms. Boyd at klboyd@fcps.edu if you are considering serving on this Committee and have questions or if you would like to serve on this Committee.

Varsity Field Hockey is currently 2-0 in National district play.  They continue district play this week.  Congratulations to the Majors.

Congratulations to Addison Brooks from Cross Country.  He has placed first in the National District meets that he has run in so far.  Cross Country continues this week with another National District meet.

August Female Athlete of the Month: Amarianna Kerr.

“In our first home opening match, on Monday, August 29th, Mari had 95% serving rate, with 7 Aces. In addition, she added 7 Kills, 7 Digs, 5 Assists, and 1 block in our win against Unity Reed”

August Male Athlete of the Month:  Addison Brooks

“Sophomore Addison Brooks is nominated as the MVHS August Athlete of the Month for his stellar performance in the team’s National District opening XC race at Mason District Park on August 31. Following an exceptionally strong month of training in the summer heat, Addison turned in a near-perfect run. Running with the leaders for the first two miles of the race, he took command going into the final mile and destroyed the field. Over the final 800 meters he left a talented and favored Khalid Hamid (Lewis HS) behind by an astounding 19.7 seconds. Addison’s time of 16:56 leads the National District after all eight schools have run the 5 km course. His start to the season is deserving of this recognition and has everyone looking forward to the start of the invitational schedule.”
