Dear Woodburn Families,

I hope that you and your family are having a great summer.  We miss our students and hope they have been able to rest, recharge, read, and enjoy time outside.

We have a few exciting summer events planned and hope you might join us. Our first kindergarten playdate is scheduled for next week and we look forward to coming together for our first math community event on July 21.  More details can be found below.

Don't forget to mark your calendar for our annual Welcome Walk and Open House in August!

Together We Grow,

Katy Richman, Principal

We look forward to seeing you there!

Math Community Events

Let's do math together this summer! Our teachers are excited to announce two important math focused community events happening in July and August.

During these events, teachers will connect with families about how math is all around us, while providing fun activities that encourage math discussions and practice at home.

We hope you will join us at one or both events.  We can’t wait to see you and talk about math with one another!

July 21: 4:00-5:00pm at Fairmont Gardens

August 8: 10:00-11:00am at Woodburn

Student Registration

Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Have you recently moved and need to register your child for the 2022-2023 school year?

Please start your registration now. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. These are the 5 steps you need to take to register your child. If you have questions regarding registration, please reach out Ms. Garcia on or after July 13. She can be reached at JEGarcia1@fcps.edu or via phone at 703-641-8200.

Required Immunizations

Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.

We encourage you to check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications

Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year. Similar to previous years, Woodburn staff will continue to assist families with completing applications.

Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes. Schools also benefit from funding opportunities based on Free and Reduced Price Meal application numbers.

Watch your email for more information as we will notify you when the applications are accessible. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

If you have questions or need assistance with the Free and Reduced-Price Meals application, please contact Robyn Fernandez at 703-641-8200 or at RLFernandez@fcps.edu.
