Please note this is my final newsletter to ensure you have key summer updates.
This newsletter, CWES Weekly Happenings, is an important method for school communication to families and goes out on a weekly basis during the school year and as needed in the summer. If you are newly enrolled in our school, you have been added to this newsletter's distribution list for your convenience. If you do not wish to receive this newsletter or have received it in error, please unsubscribe using the "Subscriber Preferences" link at the bottom of this email.
And I warmly welcome your family to CWES! I am sorry to say that I will not be your child's principal next year as I have taken a position as Principal in Residence for Equitable Access to Literacy in the central office. However, your child will be in excellent hands with the amazing staff here at Canterbury Woods Elementary School!
If you have a friend or neighbor with a new Cougar, please forward them this email and encourage them to sign up for CWES Weekly Happenings so they don't miss important updates this summer.
I transition to my new role this Friday, July 1 but I plan to partner with your new principal once they are announced to ensure a smooth transition for our school community!
It is my greatest hope that your children and families have a joyful summer! I thank you again for your support and partnership as the lucky leader of this amazing school community for the past four school years.

I will be in the office through Thursday, June 30 -- please call 703-764-5600 or email me at deleipzig@fcps.edu if you need to come in with registration paperwork or to pick up forgotten items. We still have a number of 6th grade panoramic photos that have not been retrieved.
Our office will be closed on July 1 and will reopen the week of July 11. You are welcome to email me during this period of office closure and I will ensure your message gets to the right staff member.
Our school building will be a busy place this summer. The Rec Pac program began today and the Summer SOAR program begins July 11.
On July 13, CWES administrative staff return on contract and can help you with new student registration.

Please note that the PTA will be providing disinfecting wipes (to all grades), and other grade-level specific items (i.e. paper towels, Ziploc bags, disinfectant spray) to help lower the costs of supplies for our families.

All students are required to be immunized against certain communicable diseases to attend school in the state of Virginia. It is important for all students to receive the required immunizations.
Please talk with your family health care provider about whether or not your children are up to date on their vaccines before the new school year begins. Submit updated immunization records to your school as soon as possible.
More information on immunization requirements and the necessary documentation is available online.
For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.
Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23.

This summer, free meals are still available to all children under 18.
Summer meal kits will be offered on Tuesdays at several sites through August 9. Meal kits contain seven days of breakfast and lunch items packed in bulk. All meals are available at no-cost to FCPS students and children 18 years of age and under. Visit our Meals for Students website for more details on pick up locations and times.
On Thursday, August 18, your child will have an opportunity to come to CWES, visit their classroom and meet their new teacher. Mark your calendars for this important event: details will follow later this summer.
Your child should have received a copy of the "Tic, Tac, Toe on the Go" board in their final Tuesday folder. You can download another copy here.
Students are encouraged to keep their reading skills sharp this summer at home and on the go. Get Tic Tac Toe with three in a row across, down or diagonally, or complete every activity for a blackout!
Return your Tic, Tac, Toe board to Canterbury Woods Elementary by September 9, 2022 to get a prize.
