Principal's Message

Dear Shrevewood Families,

WE DID IT….AGAIN!

We would like to take this space to thank you for yet another incredibly challenging and immensely fulfilling school year. TOGETHER, we have navigated masks, distancing, vaccinations, quarantines, isolation, contact tracing, COVID notifications and massive sub shortages…all the while, TOGETHER we smiled, taught, nurtured, laughed, loved and LEARNED. Your children grew in more ways than just growing out of their shoes and clothes. They grew in their friendships and in navigating social situations. They grew as readers and mathematicians. They grew interests in novel subject areas. They grew as inquirers and global citizens. They grew in kindness and maybe most of all, in their resilience to handle all that this world gives them.

We ask as we move into summer that you do a couple of things to continue the support of your child's needs and progress...

  • Keep a close eye on your child’s emotional needs. The impacts of COVID are still revealing themselves and our students’ emotional well-being remains our top concern and priority.
  • Please provide lots and lots of ways and places where your child can pick up something to read. Please don’t make it a chore-make it fun with books, magazines, brochures, etc.. If you need more books for the summer, please reach out.
  • Please look out for one another and when one of our “neighbors” is in need, reach out. We pride ourselves in the family-like community we share and we will all go through times when need each other. If you know of a Shrevewood family in need, please reach out to Mr. DeSmyter. Our Shrevewood family can and will mobilize very quickly when needs arise.

For your continued grace and compassion and partnership, we are thankful. Have a wonderful, relaxing and fun summer.

TOGETHER,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Susie Lilburn, Assistant Principal

Saying Goodbye

Dear Shrevewood Community,

It is the time of year that we are focused on endings and beginnings.  We are ending the school year and looking forward to the beginning of summer.  Some endings are much harder for us, especially when they involve saying goodbye to some of our wonderful Shrevewood staff members.  It is with mixed feelings of sadness and affection that we bid a fond farewell to the following Shrevewood staff members:

  • Candace Crow, Kindergarten Teacher
  • Katlyn Strickland, First Grade
  • Grace Park, First Grade
  • Rachel Murphy, Fourth Grade
  • Dawn Barnes, Fifth Grade
  • Jessica Carroll, Sixth Grade
  • Nala Chehade, ESOL Teacher
  • Jessica Phelps, Special Education Teacher
  • Emma Mutascio, Special Education Teacher
  • Jennifer Crotts, Special Education Teacher
  • Natasha Hill, Counselor
  • Colleen Wenzel, Librarian
  • Ali Moulton, Speech

As the summer approaches, we could still have staffing changes. We will continue update the community of any changes. We are already almost fully staffed for next school year. We will introduce the new staff members with you later this summer.

Goodbyes are not forever.

Goodbyes are not the end.

They simply mean I’ll miss you

Until we meet again!

With warm regards and fond memories,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal &

Susie Lilburn, Assistant Principal

Order your child’s school supplies through the Shrevewood PTA and save yourself the hassle in August. Teachers have submitted their lists to Sprout so all you have to do is choose the grade level your child will be in for 2022-23 and sit back and relax! All supplies are delivered in boxes with your child’s name TO THEIR CLASSROOM before the first day of school.

Our school store is located at www.sproutsupplies.com and our code is SES004.  Order today! Store closes July 12!

Kindergarten Assessments Save the Date(s)

This summer our Kindergarten teachers will be hosting three dates and times for assessments. These assessments will provide our team with data that will help us balance the classroom placements. The data will also help us know more about your child’s learning style before the school year begins in August. Assessments will be completed by a kindergarten teacher in our school library and will take about 20 minutes. We will send a sign up next week.

We look forward to meeting our new students starting in July. If you have questions about the Kindergarten assessments, please contact our front office at 703-645-6600.

Kindergarten Assessment schedule:

(Wednesday July 6 from 9am -12pm then 1- 4pm)

(Wednesday July 27 from 9am – 12 pm, then 1 – 4 pm)
