Message from Principal Magliola

Good Afternoon Jackson MS Parents and Families:

It is with mixed emotions that I share with you that this year will be my final year as principal at LJMS as I am moving back to California in July. I am grateful for all the support and opportunities to get to know and learn from each of you, and remain with me for life as we navigated a global pandemic together. The relationships with the Luther Jackson community and my experiences will remain with me as we navigated a global pandemic together and created the best environment for our students to learn and grow.  Please know that I have accepted the principalship at my former school in Sacramento, Winston Churchill IB Middle School. I sincerely thank you for everything you have done for our students these past years.

Dr. Fabio Zuluaga, Region 2 Assistant Superintendent, will send additional information regarding the selection process of our new principal. There will be an important community meeting, with interpreters, where parents/guardians and members of our faculty and staff can learn about the FCPS selection process for a new principal. Throughout the process, staff, parents, and students can provide meaningful feedback regarding their aspirational goals for our school and the qualities for the next leader who will help us take our school to the next level of success. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at any time if you have any questions about next year.

As we wrap up the 2021-2022 school year, I hope that we will all celebrate our students’ successes together and enjoy some quality rest and relaxation.  I wish you all a wonderful summer break.

There will not be a community message this Sunday as this is being sent today. Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Mike Magliola

PTA CORNER

On behalf of the entire PTA Board, I'd like to personally thank each and every one of you for your support of the PTA this school year. I have been proud to be part of such an active PTA.   I have been overwhelmed by the support we've received this year, every signup genius and wish list we circulated were 100% fulfilled, both by volunteer hours and also items donated.  We focused this year on showing our staff how much we appreciate all they do for the LJ community through the wellness lounge and events such as the Holiday Sweet Shop and Staff Appreciation week. In addition, our Food Needs team, led by Jenna Von Elling, worked hard to ensure our community members most in need were taken care of. This effort involves lots of hours of planning and dedication.  We couldn't do any of this without you.

To the families of rising 9th graders, we wish your students the best in the next steps of their educational journey, to rising 8th graders, we look forward to seeing you back in the fall! And to any rising 7th grade families who might already be receiving these messages, welcome and we look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Angie Roeder

Outgoing PTA President

The PTA is excited to continue our work with the LJMS Administration as we work to expand the structure and outreach of our in-school food pantry. A number of our students and their families rely on the food support we are able to offer through this program. By working with Luther Jackson’s Family Liaison and Social Worker, we are uniquely positioned to eliminate hunger as an obstacle to learning. It is important to us to provide our food unstable families with the essentials they need to care for their families. Being able to provide diapers and hygiene products, especially over the summer, relieves an immense financial burden from these families. You can help support these efforts! Simply purchase items from our Amazon wish list, and they will be sent directly to the school.

Do you have a rising 9th grader going to Falls Church High School?  FCHS Athletics has some important deadlines and information to share with new families. Check out the link to find out all you need to know for your freshmen next year.  Did you know at FCHS it's possible for your child to play a sport they've never played before? All students are encouraged to come out and get involved, it's a great way to meet new peers!
