Belvedere News and Announcements

From the Administration

Dear Belvedere Family:

It’s hard to believe the end of the school year is less than two weeks away. The last two weeks of school are busy times for all. Today, fourth and fifth graders participated in Career Day. We are so grateful for all the volunteers who came to share about their various careers. Our school counselors, Ms. Ballard and Ms. Simpson, worked tirelessly to organize this special day.

Tomorrow all students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will participate in field day. Mr. Bowles and Ms. Novak, Belvedere physical education teachers, have many fun activities planned for all students to enjoy. Our preschoolers had their water day today, enjoying a very fun summer activity with sun and water.

Next week is the fifth-grade PYP Exhibition, the culminating IB-PYP project. Students have been working in teams on an extended research project, identifying an action to take because of what they are learning. The entire community is invited to the Exhibition, which will take place on Wednesday, June 8 from 10 a.m. until noon.

The fifth-grade promotion ceremony will be on the last day of school, June 10, from 10:00 until 11:00.

Best regards,

Cecilia Vanderhye, Principal and Kelly Cabezas, Assistant Principal

Field Day Tomorrow, June 2!

For Field Day we ask that you send your child with extra clothes to change into for the rest of their day (they will get wet!), a towel (optional), sunscreen, and their water bottle.  Thank you!

For Parent Volunteers

Thank you to all the parents that have signed up to volunteer for Field Day! On Field Day we ask that you come at 30 minutes early if possible (9-9:15 for morning session, 12:30-12:45 for afternoon) so that we can show you your station and explain a few things about it.  Please sign in at the office when you arrive, and then proceed to the gym.

Please dress comfortably--it is forecasted to be HOT!

Thank you for all your help and support!

5th Grade Promotion Ceremony

The 5th Grade promotion ceremony will be held on Friday, June 10 starting at 10:00 a.m.  Please join us in celebrating as we send our 5th graders off to middle school!

Each 5th grader has been issued 2 tickets for the ceremony. To maintain social distancing during the event, families are limited to 2 guests per 5th grader. There will be no exceptions to this limit.

Please sign in at the main office with you arrive before proceeding to the Gym.  If your child will be leaving after the ceremony, please be sure to check them out in the office.

Gardening Volunteers Needed

Interested in helping take care of Belvedere’s gardens over the summer? Contact Andrea Auerbach (asauerbach1@fcps.edu) if you would like to help water, weed, harvest, and plant in our gardens. Instructions and tools will be provided.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Due This Summer

For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-23 school year.

Eligible families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.

Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes.
