 RESOLUTION HONORING GBW’S 50 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE
Today, Laura Jane Cohen (Springfield District Representative) and Stella Pekarsky (Sully District Representative) visited Greenbriar West to personally deliver a resolution on behalf of the Fairfax County School Board honoring GBW for 50 years of excellence. Thank you Ms. Cohen and Ms. Pekarsky for your thoughtful visit today and for this special recognition!
 Staff Appreciation Luncheon
The PTA teamed up with Mr. Blount and Mr. Cook to help provide a cookout for staff. It was so nice for staff to return after the Memorial Day weekend and enjoy a BBQ in our courtyard. Thank you PTA and parents for helping us host a wonderful luncheon!
Pre-ordered Yearbooks Will Be Distributed to Students Tomorrow, June 3.
Once again...a big THANK YOU to Amy McPherson for a fantastic job creating this year's yearbook! Thank you for your time, hard work and dedication in making this wonderful memory for the students, staff and parents.
After-Sales
If you did not pre-order, a limited number of yearbooks will be on sale in the cafeteria starting Monday, June 6 from 8:50 - 9:20 a.m.
Yearbooks will be sold on a first come, first served basis and will be on sale each morning until they are sold out. The cost is $23. Checks (payable to GBW PTA) or cash will be accepted. Exact cash is appreciated.
We are always looking for volunteers to be on the Yearbook Committee. If you like working with pictures and being creative, this committee would be the perfect place for you. The yearbook process gets started in the Fall, so if you are interested, please contact Amy McPherson at GreenbriarWestPTA@gmail.com

Preliminary SOL Scores to be Posted by June 8
FCPS will be posting preliminary SOL scores in ParentVUE Test History by Wednesday, June 8. Official scores will be available mid-July.
Summer Office Hours:
Effective Monday, June 13 - Friday, August 12, school office hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
The school and office will be closed on Monday, June 20 and Monday, July 4.
GBW Summer Reading Activities
Bookmark the GBW Summer Reading website to find reading programs, choice boards, and activities to keep your child busy all summer long!
Here are some of the things you will find…
- Capstone’s Virtual Summer Camp Adventure filled with bi-weekly choice boards filled with activities around reading, creating, coding, science, moving, technology, and more!
- Links to local reading programs (Fairfax County Public Library’s Summer Reading Adventure, Barnes and Noble, Pizza Hut, and Scholastic)
- Links to FCPS eBooks and online databases

For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-23 school year.
Eligible families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.
Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes.
Summer Meal Service
No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit our website for updated information during the summer.

Get a head start on the 2022-23 school year by pre-purchasing your child's school supplies. Each Spring the GBW PTA offers the convenience of pre-packaged "supply kits" from CampusSurvival.
Instructions for online ordering can be found at www.campussurvivalkits.com/gbw, as well as on our GBW school homepage. Online ordering closes on July 15.
Supply kits ordered through CampusSurvival will be delivered to the school sometime in August. You will receive notification in August as to when your supply kit(s) will be available.
If you would like to purchase your own school supplies, supply lists, by grade level, can be found on our school website under the Academics tab.

All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 2:00 p.m. on the last day of school, June 10.
- Medication may also be picked up prior to June 10 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
- Medication left in the health room after 2:00 p.m. on June 10 will be discarded.

Medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
Reminder: New medication authorization forms are required for each school year. Forms may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services

PTA Audit Committee Members Needed
Each local PTA must conduct an audit in July. The GBW PTA swaps books/records with Rocky Run PTA.
Three (3) Audit Committee Members are needed to review records in July.
Time commitment: About 2 hours in July to get together and review records from 2021-2022. All records and a checklist are provided to the committee. No financial experience is required!

We need a Committee Chair and Members to serve on the 6th Grade Committee this year! This is a fantastic opportunity to work with other parents to help coordinate the class social, fundraiser, shirt order/distribution, class gift, and year-end promotion celebration in their LAST year as Pandas! Volunteer now and spend some time with the current 6th grade committee to transition before they leave GBW! Please email greenbriarwestpta@gmail.com to volunteer.
