Field Day

Sunrise Valley Field Day is scheduled this year on Tuesday June 7, 2022.  The students are very excited to take part in this wonderful end of the year celebration.  As a courtesy we would like to share a few reminders for your child’s success and safety on this day:

  • Students are encouraged to carry their own water bottle during SVES Field Day.  Water bottles should have each student’s name either taped or written on it for identification.  Water stations will be placed in various spots around the outside of the school so that students can refill them throughout the morning and afternoon sessions.  Students have been asked to wear comfortable clothing in preparation for the weather.  This includes wearing a hat, visor or even sun block for a hot, sunny day.
  • There are two sessions for students.  Students in grades (k-3) will have their field day from 10:00AM-11:30AM.  Students in grades (4-6) will have their field day from 1:00PM-3:00PM.
  • There’s no need for students to bring a bag lunch unless they would normally.  The lunch schedule for eating inside has been adjusted to accommodate both field day sessions for students.

If there is inclement weather  field day will have to be canceled.  Due to all the school events at the end of the year  we were unable to schedule  a make up day.    The decision will be made  by 9:00AM Tuesday morning.

Once again thank you for all that you do in support of your child here at Sunrise Valley Elementary School.  If you have any questions please contact Mr. Platts at raplatts@fcps.edu or Mrs. Allen at mvallen@fcps.edu .

Sunrise Valley Summer Reading

It’s almost June, so you know what’s right around the corner… MORE TIME TO READ!  Here are a few resources to help you kick off the summer reading at your house.

Fairfax County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program begins the last day of school.  Students can earn prizes while they enjoy great books. You can sign up at any FCPL branch or online here: https://research.fairfaxcounty.gov/reading-challenges/SRA-2022

Free eBooks through Overdrive and Libby: Taking a road trip?  Don’t forget to pack your free digital books.  Through the Fairfax County Public Library, you can download popular audiobooks and eBooks.  Audiobooks can be enjoyed on iPods, mp3 players, and personal computers.  EBooks can be downloaded and read on your digital book reader (Sony, Nook, Kindle, etc.), your smartphone, iPod touch, or PC.  All downloads are free and typically the digital book will reside on your device for 21 days.  You can download the OverDrive or Libby apps here and get the startup directions: https://research.fairfaxcounty.gov/ebooks  If you need help getting up and running, you can make an appointment with an FCPL librarian who will walk you through the steps.

Can’t make it to the library?  MyOn is a digital book database provided to students by FCPS.  Students can access thousands of popular and interesting, fully-illustrated non-fiction and fiction books for a variety of reading and interest levels.  MyOn has a “reader” feature that will read the books aloud.  You can access MyOn from any computer at www.MyOn.com.  To log in:

  • School Name: Sunrise Valley ES (Slowly type "sun" and a drop -down list will let you choose our school.)
  • User name for all students K-6: student id # (i.e. 1234567)
  • Password is the unique network password the student used during the school year

Happy reading!
