Principals' Message

Dear Bonnie Brae School Community,

Thank you for your kindness, your grace, and your reassurances for our staff and students this week.  We continue to circle back to the word “family,” and our Scottie family is strong for each other and for our students.  Please continue to reach out to us if your child needs any support.

As we finish up the last full week of May, we enjoyed seeing so many Scotties in their red, white, and/or blue for our May SCA Spirit Day today!

We hope you all have a chance to connect and spend time with family and friends this three-day weekend.  The weather is looking to be nice!  Get outside and unplug!

Go Scotties!

Sincerely,

Morgan Birge, Principal

Spring Fine Arts Concert

Our Fine Arts Concert has been scheduled for June 1, 2022, from 5:30-8:30pm. The schedule and the time of the concert will remain the same. However, due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases (and out of the abundance of caution), we will be holding our concert on the blacktop and cafeteria in consideration of safety requirements, while also allowing the presentation of our concert with an audience.

The weather will be warm on June 1, so please dress accordingly. The dress code for the performers calls for black bottoms (knee-length shorts or skirts, jeans, slacks) and white tops (t-shirts, polos, blouses, no crop tops or spaghetti straps). We also ask that all students come to the concert with a water bottle that they can keep at their seat during the concert.

If the weather calls for rain, then we will move the concert inside and social distance as much as possible. If we need to adjust, then we will be sure to notify families as far in advance as possible.
Due to space and safety requirements, each student performer may bring 2 guests to the concert. Thank you for your understanding and attention to this.
For those who may not be able to attend, the concert will be recorded and sent out to families via a link.

Student Laptop Collection

As the end of the school year approaches, we wanted to share with you the procedures related to the FCPS laptop assigned to your student.  We will be collecting all student laptops and chargers at the end of this school year, so that we may complete our inventory and maintenance on our laptop collection.

Each classroom will be assigned a check-in time. Please ensure that your student has their laptop and charger ready to hand back on the day below. Their teacher and our technology team will support students in returning laptops. Following is our schedule for each grade-level:

  • Preschool Programs- Thursday, May 25
  • Kindergarten- Wednesday, May 25
  • Grade 1- Tuesday, May 24
  • Grade 2- Thursday, June 2
  • Grade 3- Wednesday, June 1
  • Grade 4- Thursday, June 2
  • Grade 5- Wednesday, June 8
  • Grade 6- Tuesday, June 7
  • Grades 4-6- Soft laptop cases will not be collected; students may keep these and use them for next year.

Summer Programs

If your student is participating in Summer Learning Programs, students may keep the laptop through July 22, 2023.

  • One the last day of summer programs, we will be collecting laptops for students on-site at Bonnie Brae Elementary
  • For any Summer Programs held elsewhere, we will be sending out drop-off times and will need the laptops returner no later than July 29, 2022

Please note that we will re-distribute laptops to our students in the fall when our inventory and maintenance is complete, so your student will be able to use an FCPS laptop again next year.

Thank you,

Bonnie Brae's Tech Team

6th Grade Promotion Ceremony

rainbow day
promotion

As a reminder, our 6th grade promotion ceremony is scheduled for June 9, from 9-10 AM.  We are excited to celebrate our 6th graders’ promotion to middle school.  Weather permitting, we will be on the blacktop.  While we will not be monitoring the number of guests for each family, due to spacing and seating constraints we are recommending, but not requiring, two guests per 6th grade student.  This is a special day for our 6th grade students and families, and we are looking forward to recognizing them on Thursday, June 9th from 9-10 AM!

Tutor.com - Available Summer 2022

FCPS students will continue to have unlimited access to 24/7, on-demand, online tutoring support services through Tutor.com during the summer of 2022.  Students are able to use Tutor.com during the summer to review and/or practice in subject areas of interest or need. Students may also choose to access other tools/services such as practice quizzes in a variety of subject areas, as well as self-paced study courses for SAT/ACT preparation.

Details about how students can access Tutor.com via archived courses in Schoology are provided in Summer Access at Tutor.com - Online Tutoring Services.  Students enrolled in summer Credit Recovery Academy, Online Campus, Online Economics & Personal Finance, and TJHSST summer courses will be able to access Tutor.com via their active summer course in Schoology.

Additional resources schools may use to communicate Tutor.com summer access to students/families are provided in the Tutor.com - Online Tutoring Services Employee Hub Site to include a Summer Access Flyer that could be shared with students/families.

FCPS' Family Return to School Survey Is Coming Soon

Now that FCPS has transitioned back to a more typical school experience, the school division is interested in hearing from parents/caregivers about how the school year has gone for their students. You will have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which will open Tuesday, May 31, and close Friday, June 10.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division. We encourage all FCPS parents/caregivers to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.
