1. From the Principal's Desk
Dear Members of the Chantilly HS Community:
STEP Graduation Ceremony Bring Out the Best In Our Community
Yesterday, I took part in the annual STEP (Secondary Transition to Employment Program) Awards and Graduation ceremony. STEP is a collaborative program between FCPS and employers that provide 18-22 year old special needs students with employment training. Our STEP serves students from Chantilly HS, Centreville, HS, Fairfax HS, and Oakton HS. In short, STEP is a model program that brings out the best in students, families, staff, and our community partners. Many STEP students end up being fully employed by our community partners, and the stories of student success that I hear each year are nothing less than inspiring. I’m very happy for our STEP families and congratulate our recent STEP graduates! If you would like to learn more about STEP, please go to the following link: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/special-education-instruction/career-and-transition-services/step
Have a great holiday weekend,
Scott

This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students. I meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

Adam Fortner has shown great ability to quickly learn and perform independently and precisely multi-faceted work as a STEP intern at the United States Geological Survey (USGS). He has learned to identify 20 frog calls and reviewed 468 audio clips of frogs calling at various sites in Louisiana and has provided quality control for another STEP intern he trained to work on the frog call project. Adam also mastered the Bird-Banding project demonstrating quick and accurate data entry, problem-solving, and time-management skills. Although he sees himself more as an animator/artist than a scientist, his skills and abilities would be an asset in any field. Ms. Mariann Gibson
-
Mizky Kaneko has proven his work ethic and adaptability throughout the year at Chainbridge Solutions. This has led to him earning a summer employment opportunity at the Fairfax Marriott, an entirely different STEP worksite. This will be Mizky's first paid job! Mr. Patrick Finley
