College and Career Center Updates:

Class of 2022 Reminders:

Seniors,

Graduation is quickly approaching!  You're almost there, but there are still a few weeks left & final items to complete.

  • Senior Survey:  Seniors who HAVE NOT completed the Senior Survey or need to make corrections have been contacted by their counselor and by Mrs. Young.  Please come to the Career Center before school, after school or during your lunch   The Senior Survey is a mandatory requirement that must be completed prior to graduation.
  • ***If you are planning on attending college & your survey is not complete/includes an error, it will delay Student Services sending your final transcript after graduation.  This delay may impact your ability to register for classes.***
  • Senior Awards Deadline May 23rd: We want to recognize you during our Senior Awards Ceremony to be held on June 2, 2022.   If you wish to be recognized for scholarships you have received AND will use, email your award letter to Mrs. Young in the Career Center.  Scholarships include those awarded by the college the senior will attend and community scholarship committees.
  • Seniors that have committed to military service (enlisted), plan to attend a Military Academy or College, or received an ROTC Scholarship will be recognized during the program. If you have committed to participate in ROTC (non-scholarship recipients) please email me ASAP.
  • Deadline to email Mrs. Young at kbyoung1@fcps.eduis Monday, May 23, 2022.  Remember we can’t recognize you if you don’t let us know!
  • NOVA Rep Visit May 24th: Our NOVA Admissions Representative Ms. Acosta will be in the Career Center on Tuesday, May 24th during ALL lunches to answer last-minute questions from seniors planning on attending NOVA this fall.  Please note that Mrs. Acosta will NOT be here to register students for classes

Summer Classes SAT & ACT

Registration open! Classes prep for 8/27 SAT and 9/10 ACT.

All on-campus classes and mock tests are in Gunston, Room 190 pod. Park in Academy lot, enter door 10/Academy.

Why Try the ACT?

  • Accepted Everywhere – yes, really! Every college accepts it without prejudice.
  • It’s Concrete – The SAT can be abstract but the ACT is more straightforward without the added step of interpreting the question. ACT is clear about what you are being asked.
  • No Hunting for Specific Lines – There are no multi-step questions in the ACT Reading section, so no time spent hunting for evidence in specific lines.
  • Less Fatigue – The ACT sections are short so you don’t have to worry about focus fade or boredom setting in.
  • Aggressive Guessing Yields High Scores – ACT is fast paced, but you can guess on select problems and do great!
  • Straightforward Word Problems – ACT word problems are simple and the correct operations are more obvious than on the SAT. No pulling equations out of complex narratives!
  • Science Section is not hard-core science! The questions are all about testing your ability to move quickly through charts, tables, and graphs.

WPHS Athletics Reminders and Fundraisers

Sports Physical Night

Wolverine Parents, it’s time to start planning for the 2022-23 high school sports seasons. The first step for students to be eligible to participate with any West Potomac sports teams, including tryouts, workouts and green days, is to complete a sports physical on a VHSL Pre-participation Physical Examination (PPE) form.  The sports physicals for the current school year will expire on June 30th2022.  The West Potomac High School Athletic Training Program will be offering sports physicals at WPHS on Tuesday June, 7th.  The completed physical will stay on file at school and be good for all sports participation both in and out of season for the 2022-23 school year.  This event is a fundraiser for the WP Athletic Training Program and proceeds go to support student athletes in all sports.  The cost of the physical is $50 and all students must register online.  Register now while there is space available.

Volunteers:  We are always looking for medical and non-medical volunteers to assist us for the event. If you are interested in helping out (and will be available from 5 – 8pm on 6/7) click on this link to register as a volunteer. You will be given more information as we get closer to the night.
