From The Principal

Family,

Thank you for another week of support and care as we get ever closer to the end of the year. While we are indeed winding down, we are still trying to be just as vigilant in so many areas. Due to the protocols that are still in place for COVID with the CDC and the district, we need to do our best to ensure that we are continuing to engage in those mitigation strategies that will allow us to maintain our safe environment. The custodial staff and our teachers are still employing a great deal of those strategies and we need our students to be on the same page. It is somewhat discouraging to see the letters that go out from our COVID case manager stating that we have seen so many positive cases daily. My biggest concern is that we could have students that miss out on activities as a result of being diagnosed as being positive with COVID. School is school, but it is also a very social environment and I want to ensure that our students are able to be available to enjoy the culture that we have created along with them, for them.

So all that being said, I ask that you continue to have the conversations with your children about washing their hands, wiping down areas behind themselves and before as well. I thank you in advance for taking the time to remind your children about this important matter.

As we get closer to the end of the year and the days of summer, there are a couple of items that I need to share with you. We know that when the weather gets warmer, the outfits tend to change. We are having to have more conversations with students in the realm of dress code. Again, I want students to be able to enjoy their time with their peers while closing the year out strong in the classroom. I have had to have so many conversations over the past week with our young men about their low cut tops and shorty shorts, and I just need a break. (Just kidding, but you know what I mean.). The last thing a student wants to have to deal with is an administrator greeting them with “Good Morning! Can I speak to you in private for a quick second?” If you could remind the students that we will be out of their hair soon enough and they will be free to express themselves through fashion in the manner that they and you all have agreed to. Thank you again in advance.

Well we have a group of young ladies to recognize for digging deep and finding a way to win the 2022 Patriot Championship in Women’s Soccer! Our Lady Stallions beat Fairfax in the second 5 minute period of overtime 4-3. This was one of the most exciting games I have seen this year! This group of ladies should be so proud of themselves. If you see one of them, please take a moment to congratulate them. You will know them when you see one of them because they will still be wearing that huge grin on their faces!

Well that is all that I have for this week. I hope you took the opportunity to get a bit of vitamin D today as it was a beautiful day to be out and about, provided you had a tall glass of something cold to go along with that temperature. Take care of yourselves and continue to be safe. Thank you for all you do to support this machine! #OneStallion

ANGP Fundraiser

The Final Stampede All Night Grad Party (ANGP) is quickly approaching and there is still more to be done to reach our fundraising goal -- especially to ensure that we are able to provide assistance to those who may not be able to afford tickets and to ensure all of the students are able to go home with a prize.

Come join us at Hometown Grill and Bar in Lorton! They have joined our efforts by donating 10% of their sales (food & drinks) on the evening of May 25th in support of the ANGP.

Everyone of all grades and all ages is welcome! This is also a great opportunity for Junior parents to meet Senior parents and talk about what they can expect during their upcoming Senior year.

Please tell your server that you are there to support South County High School All Night Grad Party!

South County’s Stallion Spirit Store has a variety or ways you can purchase items for the school year. We have a website where you can browse our spirit wear and find a PDF Order Form for download; invoicing for payment on MySchoolBucks will be sent after your order is fulfilled.  You can also find our kiosk in the cafeteria during lunches on odd days (5th period) as well as in the gym lobby by way of a retail vending machine!

Thank you in advance for supporting the Entrepreneurship & Marketing program as well as the Work and Transition program here at South County. The students from these programs typically work the Spirit Kiosk at lunches to build customer service skills as well as count inventory, review financial records and create promotional plans.
