Hunt Valley Calendar
May 30th - Memorial Day Holiday! Jun. 10th - Last Day of School (2-hour Early Release)
News from the Health Room
Parents are reminded that all medications need to be picked up no later than dismissal on the last day of school (June 10th).
Lost and Found
We have collected more coats, jackets, and hoodies over the past few months. We have put them in clear bins outside the main entrance to make them easily accessible for parents and students alike. If your student is missing one of the items listed above, please take time to look through our lost-and-found bins. We cannot house these items indefinitely, so we will donate whatever has not been claimed by Monday, June 13th.
COVID Isolation Update
If your student tests positive for COVID, please notify the front office. This can be done on our attendance line and it is important so that their absences are marked correctly in our system and we can get your student set up for virtual learning. After the school is notified, Mrs. Youssef, our COVID case manager will call you to ask some questions and answer any of your questions in return.
FCPS changed our quarantine guidelines from a 10 day isolation to a 5 day isolation:
-
Isolation period for students of 5 days. The student may return on days 6-10 when the following criteria is met:
- Fever free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication)
- Symptoms are improving
- As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) individuals should continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others at home and in public for 5 additional days (day 6 through day 10) after the end of the 5-day isolation period.
- If individuals are unable to wear a mask when around others, they should continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home.
If you have questions about COVID-19, contact your medical provider or find more information on Fairfax County Health Department's website
If your child meets the criteria for an early return, please notify the front office. This can also be done via our attendance line. Please note that not all students are ready to return after the 5th day, so if your child still seems tired, under the weather, or is coughing a lot, please allow them to stay home and rest.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Youssef at cyoussef@fcps.edu
Daily COVID Notifications
Hunt Valley Families,
As you know, COVID-19 cases have been increasing in Fairfax County and in schools. Here at Hunt Valley ES, we have seen an increase in cases and continue to encourage everyone to take the steps they feel necessary to stay safe and healthy
We have been transparent about how the pandemic is impacting Hunt Valley ES and our students all year. We will continue to share daily COVID-19 notifications whenever there is a confirmed positive case in our school. This information is provided to make our school community aware of the current situation and be able to make informed decisions about how to protect themselves.
I appreciate the patience, support, and understanding you have shown throughout this school year as we adjust our response to the pandemic. Together, we have kept our students participating in learning and activities. I look forward to celebrating the end of the school year with everyone.
Thank you,
David Fee Principal

Lost Laptop Power Cords - FCPSOn Laptops - Grades 3-6
Several students have reported lost power cords during the school year. The cost of a replacement power cord is $23. We ask that you reimburse the school for the lost power adapter rather than buy your own replacement, so the lost cord can be replaced with the same Dell 65W power adapter issued. We cannot accept third-party replacement cords as returns for the original as it is a safety and compatibility concern. Please contact Lisa Dumond in the main office regarding the purchase of a replacement adapter if needed. She will provide a receipt to you and/or the student to account for the missing adapter at the time of laptop collection.
Spring SOLs
Below is the schedule of tests and dates for each grade level.
Additional information was sent in a previous email and included links about the Virginia SOL testing program. Grades K-2 do not participate in the SOL assessments.
Reminder: if you have not already done so please sign the parent permission form for retakes ASAP.
If you have any questions about SOL testing please contact your child’s teacher or the school’s Testing Coordinator, Chrissy Gibbs cegibbs@fcps.edu
Spring iReady Assessment
The online iReady assessment (also known as the universal screener) provides a view of all students’ skills and growth in reading or mathematics. The spring window is still open for students in grades 3-6. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener Parent Notification webpage. For questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Hunt Valley Updates
Early Dismissal
The last half hour of school is a busy time for the teachers as they wrap up their lessons and prepare their students for dismissal. It is also the time that the busses arrive. We will, therefore, not dismiss students between 3:30pm and 4:05pm. Please plan accordingly.
Bus Riding
Parents, students are expected to ride the bus assigned to them by transportation. We do not allow bus switching nor do we allow students who are not assigned to a bus to ride a bus home. Please make other arrangements outside of school for playdates and childcare. Thank you.
Late Arrivals
Parents, we are noticing an influx of students arriving after the Tardy Bell as well as parents dropping off forgotten items for their children after the Tardy Bell. Instruction for the day starts when the second bell rings, it is very distracting for our teachers and their students when classmates walk in late, and when items have to be dropped off in the classroom after instruction starts. It also adds an extra burden on our front office staff. Our Tardy Bell rings at precisely 9:20am, any student arriving after that time must be signed in at the front door and their attendance will be marked as an unexcused tardy. Please plan to have your student arrive between 9:10 and 9:15 every morning, and have them double check their things before they leave so that we can avoid both of these issue. Let’s work together to make this a good learning environment for everyone.
Become a Friend of the Chesapeake Bay
The Second Grade Team is excited that our grant to restore our butterfly garden was accepted. This grant money is made possible through families and communities that purchase the Chesapeake Bay License Plate to help keep the bay clean. Proceeds from the sale of these plates will help citizens keep the bay healthy by restoring wetlands, planting buffers around waterways, promoting marine life restoration, decreasing pollution, and providing educational programs. Families can join the cause by becoming a friend of The Chesapeake Bay for an annual $25 dollar fee they can have personalized revenue-sharing license plates with $15 dollars going to the Chesapeake Restoration Fund. Here is the link to order the license plate: https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/onlineServices/
