Dear Jackson Students and Families,
We are entering our final week of SOL testing and looking ahead to June as we prepare for a strong finish to the year. Please continue to talk to your child about the importance of being safe at school everyday. From language to safety in the halls, we need all students to follow our school policies and procedures so we can ensure the safety of all staff and students. Students that are unable to uphold the minimum safety expectations will face consequences and may be unable to participate in end of the year activities. I appreciate all families in our Jackson community taking the time to have these conversations.
There also appears to be a fake non-FCPS account with the address "principal7081@gmail.com" that may be sending emails to members in our community. The email may include the question, "are you available right now?" This is not an official FCPS account, nor is it an account I would be using to communicate. We have reported the issue to our IT department and ask that if you receive an email from this account, do not reply.
End of the Year Dance for 8th Grade Students
June 3rd from 6pm-8pm is the 8th Grade Dance - Volunteers are needed! If you have an interest in volunteering, please complete the Google form and you will be contacted with more details. Thank you for your consideration and we are excited to come together this year as we have in years past.
The 8th Grade Dance will be held indoors from 6pm to 8pm on June 3rd.

Finally, we have let our 8th grade students know that we want all of them to attend the 8th grade celebration, but they will not be permitted to attend if they engage in serious misconduct during 4th quarter. Serious misconduct includes but is not limited to:
- Vaping or being in possession of vaping paraphernalia
- Fighting or assault
- Possession, use, or distribution of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs
- Bullying or harassment (including online)
- 10 tardies in the quarter
- In School or Out of School Suspension
- 3 or more After School Detentions
EOY Team Awards are on June 6th and 7th
We are excited to welcome back out in-person Team Awards this year! Families whose students will receive awards will receive an invitation from their child's team teachers inviting them to attend the award session and time to attend.
Laptop & Charger Collection
We will be collecting laptops and chargers on June 8th and 9th in PE classes. If your child has lost their charger, the replacement cost is $23. If they have lost their computer, please notify Mr. Waldren (arwaldren@fcps.edu) ASAP. If lost, You will be responsible for replacing the computer at $472. These items must be collected or paid for in order to prevent delays in receiving a computer next year.
- If your child has lost either item, please have a conversation with them about responsible use. Labeling their technology is a best practice and highly encouraged. All students were given laptop labels at the beginning of the year; many students have peeled off their labels. Again, all students are responsible for lost technology, as stated in the Student Rights & Responsibilities document.

Algebra 1 & 2 Final Exam Announcement
ALL students enrolled in Algebra 1, Algebra 1 Honors, or Algebra 2 will be taking their final exam on June 1st, 2022 during the first two blocks. More details have been shared with students during class. Please reach out to your child’s Algebra teacher if you have any questions/concerns.

End of the Year Clinic Update
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
Medication authorization forms for the next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services.

How To Survive Middle School 2022

Are you a rising 7th grader who will attend Luther Jackson in the fall? This is your chance to get this middle school thing figured out early! Come and meet students from other elementary schools who will come together here at Jackson as 7th graders, learn your way around the building, get to know some fantastic Jackson teachers, and have a great time! Registered students will be given access to a wealth of virtual information about LJMS as well as get a chance to explore the building when they come for one of the two different 2-day sessions. Transportation to LJMS, dinner, and a new Luther Jackson t-shirt are included in the tuition.

FCPS and Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (DNCS) have teamed up to offer a five week camp for rising 7th and 8th graders. Our camp will be a combination of students from the following middle schools: Kilmer, Glasgow, Holmes, Jackson, Poe, and Thoreau. Bus transportation will be provided from various pick-up locations which will be communicated in June prior to the start of camp.
There is a $50 registration fee., and a mandatory parent meeting before camp starts.
The staff is led by your local After-School Specialists and trained DNCS staff. Campers will have a great time playing sports, games, doing arts and crafts and exploring concepts in science and technology.

Transportation Reminders
Morning Kiss and Ride
A reminder that school begins at 7:30 and students should be in their seat at or before that time. If you are dropping your student off at kiss and ride, please allow adequate travel time for traffic and the kiss and ride line. Please pull up past the flagpole and have your student prepared to exit your vehicle quickly to keep the line moving. Students should not exit cars on Gallows Rd or close to Gallows Rd.
Afternoon Kiss and Ride reminders
Students are dismissed at 2:15 and all students should be picked up by 2:25.
Students should not walk across the parking lot to get in cars in the Kiss and Ride line.
Students are not permitted to get in cars on Gallows Rd.
Bus Passes
If your student plans to ride home with another student on a different bus, they must go to the main office at least one day prior to the event to obtain a bus pass. Students should present a handwritten note giving permission in order to obtain a bus pass. If a student needs to ride a different bus for more than a few days, they should go to Student Services for assistance.

Welcome to Ms. Ruth Orellana, our new Family Liaison (title formerly known as Parent Liaison). Originally from El Salvador, Ms. Orellana has worked in FCPS for many years, speaks Spanish and is learning Portuguese.
