Woodburn News - May 20, 2022

5-20

Dear Woodburn Families,

It was wonderful to recognize and show our gratitude to our many volunteers at last night's celebration and PTA meeting. Our community is strong because of the work of our volunteers and the strong partnerships we have formed.  We  are humbled by the time they give to our students, staff, and community.  Please join us in thanking every volunteer that gave time to Woodburn this school year.

It is going to be a weekend of running!  We hope to see many families at our PTA Fun Run later today.  On Sunday, we will be joining our Girls on the Run team for their 5k. Our shoes are laced and we can't wait to run and celebrate all our girls have accomplished!

Arts Integration Night - May 26

We are excited for our upcoming virtual arts integration night on May 26 from 6-7.  We hope your family might grab some dinner or snacks and join us as we celebrate Woodburn and the arts.  We will:

  • Share student performances in collaboration with our partner, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra
  • Celebrate the arts integration practices implemented across the school this past year
  • Reveal our completed mural!

A zoom link will be sent next week.  Translation will be provided.

Thank You Woodburn PTA

This year's PTA board deserves much gratitude for the events and opportunities they coordinated for our wildcats. Their focus on community led to the return of movie nights, Raise A Reader, a spring dance, restaurant nights, and more.  Please join us as we express our heartfelt thanks to this year's board and give a warm welcome to our 2022-2023 PTA Executive Board.

FCPS' Family Return to School Survey Is Coming Soon

Now that FCPS has transitioned back to a more typical school experience, the school division is interested in hearing from parents/caregivers about how the school year has gone for their students. You will have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which will open Tuesday, May 31, and close Friday, June 10.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division. We encourage all FCPS parents/caregivers to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Please start your registration now. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. These are the 5 steps you need to take to register your child. If you have questions regarding kindergarten registration, please reach out Ms. Garcia at JEGarcia1@fcps.edu or call our main office at 703-641-8200.

Health & Safety Reminders

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Garcia, our student registrar in the main office.

Monitoring Your Child's Health

Please continue to you use the FCPS health screening questionnaire to monitor your child's health each day.  This will support our efforts to keep all students and staff as safe as possible. If your child has Covid-like symptoms at school, you will be asked to pick them up immediately.

Please use the health screening questionnaire to screen your child for Covid-19 symptoms before sending them to school each day.

Where to Find a Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine

FCPS is encouraging all parents whose children are eligible to get vaccinated. We know that vaccination is the way out of this pandemic, and we are asking you to help us continue to make our schools as safe as they possibly can be.

The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on the FCPS website.
