Principal's Message

Parents and Caregivers,

We have finished the first round of SOL tests in English, math, and science. If your student got a score between 375 and 399, they are invited to remediation sessions with their teacher and an opportunity to retake the test.  These tests will take place next week.  We have seen good results overall for the school, and we look forward to these students having another opportunity to show us what they have learned this year.  Thank you for supporting your student and the school in having the students present and ready for these important assessments.

After next week, we will have final projects and wrap up lessons as we quickly wind down the year.  It’s business as usual for now, and the students are doing a great job staying engaged despite the summery weather!

For Parents of Current 8th Grade Students – FCPS Academic and Career Plan

Your student has been working with their teachers and counselors this year to plan for high school and beyond. Counselors and teachers have conducted Academic and Career Plan (ACP) lessons which support goal setting, planning for courses to meet high school graduation requirements, and planning for college and/or career readiness. Students will continue working on their ACP through the end of this 8th grade school year and will update their ACP during high school as goals evolve. Students are adding to their ACP through Naviance Student. We encourage students and parents/guardians to log onto Naviance Student together and explore the resources and exploratory activities.  You can do this by logging onto Blackboard (Parent or Student account) and then clicking on Naviance Student. In Naviance Student, click on the About Me tab, scroll down, and click Portfolio.

Please review your student’s Academic and Career Plan progress in Naviance Student and complete this ACP Verification Google Form as verification by Thursday, June 30, 2022.

If you have any questions about your student’s ACP please email his/her counselor.  For more information about the FCPS Academic and Career Plan program, visit the ACP website.

This year our focus for summer reading will be on helping students form a reading HABIT. If you can, kindly consider donating new or gently used age-appropriate books that we can give to students to start their summer reading OR purchase books from this WishList. Books can be dropped off at the main office or sent via the WishList. Many thanks!
