Principal's Message

My Dearest Sleepy Hollow Family,

We hope this letter finds you in the best of health and in great spirits. Can you believe we only have 17 more school days left and lots to accomplish in that short period of time? Well, in the words of Carol Burnett, “Let us enjoy this time together.” Please join us for International Night this Friday evening and our Fifth Grade Craft/Flea Market on Saturday. We’d love to see you! Also, please stay tuned for our June 3rd Field Day. Volunteers are welcomed. Our Sign up Genius is forthcoming. Wishing you an amazing week ahead filled with lots of joy, peace, and kindness!

All the best,

Updated COVID-19 Isolation Procedures

Beginning May 1, 2022, students may return to in-person instruction and activities, including athletics, after at least five (5) days of isolation when meeting ALL of the following criteria:

If students are unable to wear a mask when around others, they are to continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home.

Children who are in isolation will continue to have access to StreamIn/CheckIn during this time.

The new procedure aligns with the timeline recommended by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD).

SevaTruck – New Schedule

The SevaTruck Foundation will be at Sleepy Hollow every Friday, May 13th – June 3rd (except May 20th due to a prior engagement). Students and staff who wish to partake may enjoy a hot meal at the end of the day. Participation is optional. Meals will be delivered to students between 2:45 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. Students have the option of taking the bag meal home—NO EATING ON THE BUS!

Library News

All SHES students had the chance to interact with some real "jumping beans" which tied into a VA Reads book titled Not a Bean.  Their inquiry involved noting what they could see, feel, and hear about these seedpods from a shrub called yerba de la flecha.  Ask your student why the "beans" jump - this was a really exciting library activity!

24/7, On-Demand, Online Tutoring Support

Dear Fairfax County Public Schools Families,

We are excited to share a great opportunity that is available to all FCPS students! Your child will soon have unlimited access to 24/7, on-demand, online tutoring support services through Tutor.com. Students can connect online any time, any place, and in most subjects for however long they need. Tutoring may be on-demand and/or scheduled at a time convenient for the student and/or family.

Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format (voice and/or text chat). Tutors will focus on developing your student’s strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during or after school hours and/or weekends.

Tutoring Program Details:

  • Student participation in online (voice and/or text chat) tutoring services is completely optional.
  • Students will use the same FCPS-sponsored platforms they are familiar with for online learning.
  • The tutors employed by Tutor.com do not work for Fairfax County Public Schools.
  • All tutors must pass a thorough background check conducted by Tutor.com and meet federal and state requirements (aligned to FCPS practice).
  • FCPS school staff do not participate in the online tutoring sessions between a student and their tutor.
  • FCPS does not assume responsibility for supervision during tutoring sessions.
  • For the purposes of safety and security, every tutoring session is recorded, and transcripts are available (up to 6 months) for students, parents and FCPS staff to review if needed.

Visit our online tutoring services website for additional information and responses to frequently asked questions (FAQ).

Opt-Out Information

Students will be able to access Tutor.com through a link in Schoology beginning mid-April, 2022. Your student will automatically have access to the Tutor.com tutoring service unless you submit an opt-out request. If you do not want your student to have access to this online tutoring resource, complete the opt-out via ParentVUE by April 11, 2022.  Directions for opting out can be found on the Online Tutoring Services website. If you are unable to opt-out via ParentVUE, submit the hard copy form that will be sent home by your school. You may also opt your student out of Tutor.com tutoring service at a later date via ParentVUE or by submitting a request to your student's school.
