FH Weekly Update - 5/15/2022

Dear Freedom Hill Community,

As the weather heats up, so is the anticipation of our end of year festivities! May is flying by in a flash. We're so proud of our students for the learning they are demonstrating this year, from our primary students becoming more advanced readers and writers, to our upper grade students performing admirably on the SOLs. In the coming weeks, we will celebrate the end of the school year with class/grade level festivities, 6th Grade Promotion, Field Day, awards, and much more. Keep your eye out for communications from your classroom teacher about how you can be involved with recognizing our students for their great efforts in 2021-22.

FCPS has seen a recent increase in COVID-19 cases and outbreaks and parents/legal guardians are reminded of the daily health screening requirement to check their students for mild, cold-like symptoms each day, such as fever, runny nose, cough, or shortness of breath. Parents and guardians are advised to keep their students home if sick and get them tested to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

As always, please contact us if you have any questions, concerns or great things to share about our students and staff. Have a great week.

In partnership,

Nicholas Zapadka, Principal

Eric Kopacz, Asst. Principal

Field Day! Volunteers Needed

FD

Dear Parents,

This spring we are beginning to prepare for our annual fitness and field day. The theme is "Teamwork Makes the Dream Work". The event will take place on Friday, June 3rd. Kindergarten through Sixth Grade will be participating from 9:30-11:45am.

In order for the event to be successful, we need volunteers to assist in running the activities. Volunteers would need to arrive no later than 9:10am on the day of the event and stay until 11:50am to help with clean up.

If you can volunteer, please fill out the Sign-Up Genius form by Friday, May 27th. You will receive your activity assignment and details about Field Day through email shortly before the date.  It’s been a few years but if you are a veteran parent, please let us know if you have a particular station you would prefer to be assigned to, and we will do our best to accommodate you. Thanks!!!

SOL Schedule

sol

Students in grades 3-6 participate in end-of-year testing required by the state of Virginia, called the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests. We ask that you please avoid any appointments or trips that may interrupt your child’s testing days to the greatest extent possible.

What are Expedited Retakes?  The Virginia Board of Education allows elementary and middle school students who fail Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year. Retesting is available when a student fails their first attempt with a score of 375-399 (400 is passing).  Parent permission is required for any retests for students in grades 3-8. The SOL Retake Permission Forms were sent home in Wednesday Folders - please return the form to your child’s teacher by/before April 22nd.
