BMP Attendance Matters!

Attendance matters and every day in school counts!

Attendance Matters!

Please remember the importance of late-year attendance for school success.  While we acknowledge that we are approaching the end of the year, it is important that all students need to be in school.  On time.  Everyday.

The last day of the school year is Friday, June 10th. We expect all students to be in school until the last day.  Please plan for your child to be with us through the last day of the school year.

Next school year begins on Monday, August 22nd.  All students should be in school on the first day of school.  Please plan any trips to allow for your child to be back with us starting the first day of school!

Yearbooks for Sale

Yearbooks are now available for purchase in the front office. The price is $15 per yearbook.  CASH ONLY will be accepted. We have limited quantities so get yours while supplies last.

No School on Monday, May 30

There is no school for staff or students on Monday, May 30th in honor of the Memorial Day holiday.  We look forward to seeing your child back at school at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

International Night is Back!

Join us from 6:00 - 7:30pm on Friday June 3 to celebrate the amazing diversity of Bren Mar Park!  We would love for you to bring art, artifacts, and FOOD from your country/culture/state to share with others and your child can participate in a fashion show to showcase their beautiful clothing from around the world.  Information will be going home soon, so let us know if you would like to be a part of this amazing event!    If you have a student or know of a group who is interested in performing a dance or song at International Night please email our music teacher Ms. Millett at ccmillett@fcps.edu.  We can’t wait to see you!

Specialist Spotlight: Library

Hello from the library!  The library continues to be a busy place!  We’ve wrapped up our Virginia Reads unit and voted for our favorite book.  Kindergarten - 2nd grade’s favorite book was a biography of a man named Fauja Singh.  He was the oldest man to ever run a complete marathon at the age of 100!  Our older students voted and chose a great chapter book called Amari and the Night Brothers.  It’s sort of reminiscent of Harry Potter as Amari discovers a world full of magic.

Right now, Kindergarten is learning that research is just wondering about something and trying to find answers to questions we may have.  They’re learning to look at books and databases like Pebble Go and MyON to find answers.  First grade is doing an author study right now.  Classes are learning about and listening to stories by either Leo Lionni or Tomie dePaola.  Second and third graders are talking about book series and reviewing genres.  I’m booktalking and reading the first chapter of some great series to encourage kids to try something new.  Fourth and fifth graders are in the middle of a research project.  Fourth graders are researching the sun, moon, and planets and fifth graders are researching ancient civilizations.  Like I said, there’s lots going on in the library!

It is getting close to the end of the school year, though, and that means it’s time for kids to find and return all their lost books.  ALL books must be returned to the library by Friday, May 27.  Please help your child find his or her books - check under couches, in the car, under the bed.  You never know where books can be hiding.  Students who return or pay for lost books will be able to enter a raffle for books and posters. Thanks for your help with finding those lost books!Notes

Specialist Spotlight: Music

3rd and 4th Grade Mustangs have been learning all about their musical opportunities for next year! Current 3rd grade students are invited to join Chorus and Orchestra as 4th graders. Current 4th grade students are invited to join Chorus, as well as either Band or Orchestra. Be on the lookout for sign-ups!

All of our students have been working towards becoming Tuneful, Beatful, and Artful musicians. Older students are working on decoding melodies into syllables as a part of our music literacy work. They are wrapping up the year by working on some challenging pieces using our classroom instruments. Students in all grades continue to learn folk songs and games from around the world. Some classes have even been able to take their musical learning outside and play singing games on the blacktop!

It has been our pleasure to make music with our Mustangs IN PERSON all year long! Please continue the music making over the summer by singing, dancing, and playing games together as a family!
