Ways to Make Sunshine

Last week we celebrated the completion of our One School One Book project in which the entire school read the book, Ways to Make Sunshine. Staff members wore their yellow staff shirts and all students received a frozen treat and a yellow bracelet.

Life is full of ups and downs and we can all be like Ryan and learn to make our own sunshine!

Spring Health and Safety

Fairfax County has transitioned to medium community level with  COVID-19 cases and outbreaks increasing in schools, especially elementary schools. We understand families and staff have concerns and questions.

Our commitment is to provide students with the education and support to help them succeed while maintaining a safe environment for in-person learning. Our layered prevention strategies have served us well throughout this school year, and are fully supported by the U.S. Department of Education and Northern Virginia Health Departments.

Vaccinations are available for school-age children five and up and are proven to reduce the severity of illness. Everyone is encouraged to get vaccinated or boosted.

Currently, masks are optional for all students, staff, and visitors. We encourage families and staff to consider wearing a mask when reports of COVID cases are high or if they or a family member is at high risk. CDC advises individuals to wear a mask when there is a lot of COVID in your community. See a full list of masking recommendations on the CDC website.

If Fairfax County transitions to high community level, FCPS will require all students, staff, and visitors to wear a face covering when indoors (except while actively eating/drinking) on school property (to include the buildings, school buses and other school provided vehicles).

In alignment with the Code of Virginia, the parent/legal guardian of any child enrolled in an FCPS school may elect for such child to not wear a face covering while on school property (to include FCPS buildings). No reason or documentation will be necessary to elect for your child to not wear a mask.

One of the most important things we can all do is check for mild, cold-like symptoms each day, such as fever, runny nose, cough, or shortness of breath. Parents and guardians are advised to keep their students home if sick and get them tested to stop further spread from occurring. Employees are also advised to stay home and get tested when feeling sick.

The most up to date information is available on the Health and Safety Guidance Document webpage. If you have questions or concerns unique to your child’s situation, please contact your school.

Testing in most classrooms will begin by 9:15 AM each day so it is very important that students arrive at school on time and no later than 9:00 AM.

Tests are untimed so students may have as much time as they need. Many students, but not all, do finish by lunch time. If you will be picking your child up early, please call the school to see if your child has finished testing or not.

Laptop Collection

We will begin collecting all school-issued laptops on Monday, June 6, 2022.  Please help ensure that you child brings their laptop AND power supply to school on this day. Beginning this day students will no longer bring the devices home for the year. We also ask that the charger be returned in a zip lock bag.  If you do not have a zip lock bag one will be provided.

Please do not remove the ID cards from the laptop.  We will need to scan the ID cards when we check them in.   If you child’s ID card is missing, please notify your child’s teacher or have your child notify their teacher.

For your reference, the cost to replace the devices if they are not returned at the end of the school year are:

  • Laptop replacement ($481.00) Price includes 4 year accidental damage protection.
  • Power adapter replacement ($23.00)

See FCPS Student Laptop Responsible Use Guidelines webpage for the most accurate information.

Thank you for your help!
