Lost Laptop Power Cords - FCPSOn
Laptops -  Grades 3-6

Several students have reported lost power cords during the school year.  The cost of a replacement power cord is $23.  We ask that you reimburse the school for the lost power adapter rather than buy your own replacement, so the lost cord can be replaced with the same Dell 65W power adapter issued.  We cannot accept third-party replacement cords as returns for the original as it is a safety and compatibility concern.  Please contact Lisa Dumond in the main office regarding the purchase of a replacement adapter if needed.  She will provide a receipt to you and/or the student to account for the missing adapter at the time of laptop collection.

FCPS Message: Stay Home When Sick

Dear Families and Staff,

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) continues to monitor cases and report COVID-19 outbreaks, as outlined by the Virginia Department of Health. Currently, Fairfax County's Community Level remains low as determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our layered prevention strategies are being implemented based on our COVID-19 Community Level, as recommended by the CDC.

However, FCPS has seen a recent increase in COVID-19 cases and outbreaks and parents/legal guardians are reminded of the daily health screening requirement to check their students for mild, cold-like symptoms each day, such as fever, runny nose, cough, or shortness of breath. Parents and guardians are advised to keep their students home if sick and get them tested to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

VaxUp

We continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated or boosted as soon as they are eligible. COVID-19 vaccination keeps children safely in school and childcare settings, and also while participating in sports, playdates, extracurricular activities, and other group activities. Strong community vaccination rates help keep our schools safe for in-person learning. To learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine, or to find a vaccine provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website.

Masking

As a reminder, students may return to school after five days of isolation if they are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving. As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) individuals should continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others at home and in public for five additional days (day six through day 10) after the end of the five day isolation period. If individuals are unable to wear a mask when around others, they should continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home. While not required, wearing a mask while indoors is still considered an important way to protect yourself and others. Families are encouraged to discuss mask wearing as an additional layered prevention strategy.

Additional recommendations to prevent COVID-19 are available online

Hunt Valley Updates

Early Dismissal

The last half hour of school is a busy time for the teachers as they wrap up their lessons and prepare their students for dismissal. It is also the time that the busses arrive. We will, therefore, not dismiss students between 3:30pm and 4:05pm. Please plan accordingly.

Bus Riding

Parents, students are expected to ride the bus assigned to them by transportation. We do not allow bus switching nor do we allow students who are not assigned to a bus to ride a bus home.  Please make other arrangements outside of school for playdates and childcare. Thank you.

Late Arrivals

Parents, we are noticing an influx of students arriving after the Tardy Bell as well as parents dropping off forgotten items for their children after the Tardy Bell. Instruction for the day starts when the second bell rings, it is very distracting for our teachers and their students when classmates walk in late, and when items have to be dropped off in the classroom after instruction starts. It also adds an extra burden on our front office staff. Our Tardy Bell rings at precisely 9:20am, any student arriving after that time must be signed in at the front door and their attendance will be marked as an unexcused tardy. Please plan to have your student arrive between 9:10 and 9:15 every morning, and have them double check their things before they leave so that we can avoid both of these issue. Let’s work together to make this a good learning environment for everyone.

Become a Friend of the Chesapeake Bay

The Second Grade Team is excited that our grant to restore our butterfly garden was accepted.  This grant money is made possible through families and communities that purchase the Chesapeake Bay License Plate to help keep the bay clean. Proceeds from the sale of these plates will help citizens keep the bay healthy by restoring wetlands, planting buffers around waterways, promoting marine life restoration, decreasing pollution, and providing educational programs.  Families can join the cause by becoming a friend of The Chesapeake Bay for an annual $25 dollar fee they can have personalized revenue-sharing license plates with $15 dollars going to the Chesapeake Restoration Fund.  Here is the link to order the license plate:   https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/onlineServices/
