School Garden News

Thanks to the efforts of Mary Muratore, the Fairfax Food Council’s Urban Ag Work Group awarded Wakefield Forest a $500 mini-grant to support our school garden.  We will be using these funds to purchase grow bags and barrels to rescue plants around the school before renovation.

Reminder from the Health Room

The school health room would like to remind families that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on Friday, June 10, the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.  If you have questions, comments, or concerns please call Health Room Aide Stephanie McNamara at 703-503-2310.

PTA Buddy Program

Would you like to help welcome new families to Wakefield Forest Elementary School by being part of the Buddy Program for SY2022-2023? What does it mean to be a Buddy Family? This summer we will match you (current WFES families) up with a new student and their family to help answer any questions they may have before starting school. If you can, you will meet in person to give the new student an opportunity to meet a new friend and have a familiar face to help them navigate the ins and out of Wakefield Forest Elementary. You'll also be invited to help welcome new families at New Student Orientation in late August. The buddy program is an easy way to help ensure our new families feel connected and welcomed to WFES.

If you are interested in becoming a Buddy Family, please send an email to Rebecca Gudicello at rebeccagudicello@gmail.com with the name of your student(s) and their grade level for the 2022/2023 school year. Please sign up by July 1, 2022. We hope that you will join us for one of the most rewarding programs at WFES!!

Substitutes needed!

As you may know, WFES often has unfilled substitute vacancies. Vacancies mean our school resources are stretched, which impacts our staff and students. This issue will most likely continue into the next school year.  If you are interested, or know someone who may be interested in serving as a substitute, please direct them here: https://www.fcps.edu/careers/career-opportunities/substitute-teaching-opportunities
