22-23 School Year Staffing Update

One of our assistant principals, Mrs. Lauren Hein, will be taking a leave of absence for the 2022-23 school year.  Lauren has contributed greatly to Daniels Run community as an instructional leader as well as establishing strong relationships with our staff, students and families.  We wish Mrs. Hein all the best as she steps away from the educational setting at the end of this school year.

I’m pleased to announce that Mrs. Sara Van Aalst will be joining Daniels Run Elementary School as an assistant principal for the 2022-2023 school year.

Mrs. Van Aalst has been working with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) for over 20 years in various school communities, serving as principal, assistant principal and teacher. Mrs. Van Aalst holds a B.A. in History from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and Masters in Initiatives in Educational Transformation from George Mason University. As a former teacher at Providence Elementary, she is excited to return to the City of Fairfax and to become a part of the Daniels Run community. Mrs. Van Aalst grew up in Fairfax County, and she now lives in Manassas with her husband, Neil, daughter, Cecilia, and dog, Whopper. She enjoys spending time with her family camping, visiting the local battlefields, and traveling to Charleston, South Carolina.

Mrs. Van Aalst is looking forward to getting to know students, staff, and families at Daniels Run while supporting our mission and goals.  Mrs. Van Aalst will start at the beginning of the 22-23 school year.
