Thank you, Irving Teachers and Staff! It was a great week of celebrations for our teachers and staff. Thank you for recognizing our amazing team of educators! A big shout out to Ms. Sozzi’s students!

They made a special sweet treat for our staff this week.

Thank you, West Springfield Community

Since 2018, Irving Middle School has partnered with Food for Neighbors to provide snack packs to students at Irving MS, West Springfield HS, Twain MS, Key MS, and Lewis High School. Last weekend, we celebrated Food for Neighbors 5th Anniversary at our last Red Bag Collection for this school year. We are so pleased to share that since we began in 2018, the West Springfield Community has donated over 70,000 pounds of food! This program is a far reaching success because of your generosity and our amazing volunteers. Thank you! Please take a look at a lovely article about our partnership with Food for Neighbors.

School Computers & SOL Testing

Monday, May 9 (English SOL) and Friday, May 13 (MathSOL) we will be testing all students. In order for testing to go smoothly, please make sure your child brings their FULLY charged school laptop to school every day and especially on our testing days. We have a very limited number of chargers and an even smaller number of loaner laptops. We need all students to bring their fully charged school laptop to school every day.

Student Laptop Chargers

It is important that all students charge laptops each night, as we do not have the ability to charge them in classrooms at the beginning of each day. For students who need to purchase a replacement charger, the cost is $23. Chargers can be purchased two ways:

  1. Go to MySchoolBucks and pay for one online and then pick it up from the Tech Office the next day.

  2. Send a check made out to Irving MS with your student to school. They will take it to the Tech Office in the morning and pick up a replacement charger   at the same time.

News from Irving’s Family Liaison

Are any of these 3 tentative programs applicable to you and your family?

If so, please email your interest, and indicate which program interests you to djrolls@fcps.edu

The greater the interest, the greater the chance of getting these programs up and running!

Irving Stays After

After School Program Parent Survey

Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality. This Survey has been approved by the FCPS Internal Survey Review Committee.  Seal Approval Number 22224.

Over 90% of our students participated in the after-school program this school year, with over 21,000 occurrences of students staying after-school.  Thank you for your continued support of the Middle School After-School Program!

Library News

Testing time means having time for reading.  After students finish up taking their SOL tests, they often have a good amount of time to read quietly.  If your student doesn’t have a good book right now, send them to the library first thing on Monday morning to select something that they’d like to read.  Like any good library, we have materials that can transport student readers away from the testing classroom, and inform and entertain them about something they enjoy.

And, as the countdown to June 10th has begun, please encourage your student to return any Irving MS Library books that may have gathered a thick layer of dust in their bedrooms.  We have recently informed students of overdue items, but there are still many to be returned.
