Message from the Principal

Dr Grove

Dear Wolftrap Families,

Hello and Welcome to May! We continue to celebrate milestones in our classrooms that mark the end of year closure. We look forward to many more, as May progresses!

MEET THE INCOMING SUPERINTENDENT: I had an opportunity to go to Annandale High School on May 3rd to hear our incoming Superintendent speak. I am going to include other opportunities to engage with her. Dr. Reid starts in FCPS on July 1st. Save the Date: Meet the Incoming Superintendent at a Virtual Town Hall May 17. On Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m., incoming superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid will join staff, families, and students for a multilingual virtual town hall. Watch your email and upcoming issues of FCPS This Week for more details, including how to register. Dr. Reid will be hosting additional engagement sessions throughout the county after her official start date on July 1. Dr. Reid held an in-person town hall May 3 that can be viewed on the FCPS YouTube Channel.

COVID-19 CASES AT WOLFTRAP: While FCPS has seen a recent increase in COVID-19 cases and outbreaks, currently the Fairfax County's Community Level has transitioned from low to medium as determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). FCPS implements our layered prevention strategies based on our COVID-19 Community Level, as recommended by the CDC. At Wolftrap, we are reminding students about handwashing and respiratory etiquette. Our custodians are increasing their cleaning of classrooms and common areas. We sent home testing kits to all families of affected classrooms. Please continue to be vigilant at home by using the daily health screening questionnaire. Please let the office know if we can answer any questions.

THANK YOU!!! Our amazing PTA and Wolftrap families have rolled out the red carpet this week to honor and appreciate our staff. Thank you to all of you who took the time to volunteer, contribute or write a simple note or email. These gestures mean so much to our staff. I say it often, that I’m a little biased, but we have tremendous staff here at Wolftrap. Thank you all for your wonderful work this past week.

NEW VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Ms. Hardin and Ms. Feidler have coordinated with the PTA to open library volunteers sign up for the classes that need the most help, for the end of the year. Please look for this sign up. A new volunteer opportunity will also occur in June, when our technology team will need enthusiastic helpers in the CL3 to gather student computers. Please look out for that opportunity. Additionally, classes will be recruiting for end of year celebrations and events. THANK YOU for your support of our staff.

SOL UPDATE: Our families of 3-6th graders know that we will be having SOL (Virginia Standards of Learning) testing over the next few weeks. This schedule was sent out in the Connection a couple of weeks ago. With the rise in COVID-19 cases this past week, there have been concerns from students and parents about missing tests. Please reassure your children that there are make-up days scheduled, and Ms. O’Donovan is planning for everyone to be caught up. The most important thing is for students, families, and staff to be safe and well. If your child wakes up on test day and does not feel well, please keep him/her home, and let us know. We can reschedule from there.  Thank you for your help!

Warmly,

Dr. Maggie Grove
Principal

Teacher Appreciation Week

pics

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week so special!  Thank you to everyone who contributed funds, sent in stars, sent in cards/pictures/gift cards and/or volunteered their time for recess duty! The teachers enjoyed a special breakfast on Monday, a popcorn bar on Tuesday, hot lunch from the Italian Store on Wednesday and a candy buffet on Thursday. We capped off the week by giving every staff member a $25 Amazon Gift Card and a handwritten note from the PTA thanking them for going above and beyond to make Wolftrap the incredible school it is.

We love our entire staff and hope they felt that love each and every day of Teacher Appreciation Week!

End-of-Year Teacher & Staff Gifts

present

It is that time of year where the PTA is finalizing collections of End-of-Year gifts for teachers and staff at Wolftrap. As we did at the holiday season, the PTA collects nominal monetary donations, combines them, and distributes cash gifts to staff at the end of the year.

If you would like to make a donation to grade-level teachers, special education faculty, instructional aides, staff, and/or special teachers (i.e., art, music, PE, etc), fill out the following form. Gifts are optional and variable by family preference. Deadline to contribute is Friday, June 3rd

PTA Reflections 2022

pic

On Thursday, April 28th, we celebrated all of our 2022 PTA Reflections participants with a reception and an ice cream sundae bar.

Congratulations to all of our winners -- and thank you to everyone who came out to acknowledge them! It's not too early to start preparing for next year -- the theme is "Show Your Voice" and students can compete in any of the following categories (or across multiple categories): literature, visual arts, photography, film production, dance choreography and music composition. We can't wait to see what our students can do!

Safe Routes to School

Thank you to our Safe Routes to School team who continue to advocate at the County and State level for increased safety and visibility at the Beulah intersection in front of our school. They continue to push for interim safety measures as we await the larger-scale VDOT construction scheduled for 2023. It is their advocacy that helped get the installation of these flexi-posts for increased driver-attention at the intersection. Thank you for advocating for our Wolftrap families!
