Thoreau Matters
May 6, 2022
Dear Thoreau Families,
Teacher appreciation week occurred this week and we could not be more grateful to our PTA for partnering with the administration to show our gratitude for our amazing staff! From gift cards, raffles and new spirit wear to tacos and ice cream, everyone enjoyed the celebratory events and opportunity to come together! The teachers and staff at Thoreau are such dedicated professionals and thank you so much to the many volunteers who helped us celebrate and recognize them.
Today, our music programs completed assessments and then enjoyed the afternoon in Hershey Park. While it’s a rainy day, I assure you that middle schoolers are still having fun on the rides!
Back in March I requested a meeting with the Vienna Chief of Police and Vienna Parks and Recreation in order to discuss situations occurring on Friday afternoons at Waters Field, adjacent to the Vienna Community Center. Students were reporting dangerous situations involving Thoreau students outside of school hours and I felt it was important to bring these concerns to the appropriate community members for awareness. In case you have not seen the recent article addressing the issues, please see page 7 of the May issue of the Vienna Voice. I am confident that when parents and community members work together, it supports our students in making good choices and being responsible citizens of our community.
Thank you again for all of your ongoing support this year. It continues to be my pleasure to serve the Vienna community and I am looking forward to the next five weeks of fun-filled events.
Sincerely,
Teresa Khuluki
Principal
