School Computers & SOL Testing

We will begin our SOL testing on Thursday, May 5, with the 8th grade SOL. In order for testing to go smoothly, please make sure your child brings their FULLY charged school laptop to school every day and especially on our testing days. We have a very limited number of chargers and an even smaller number of loaner laptops. We need all students to bring their fully charged school laptop to school every day.

Student Laptop Chargers

It is important that all students charge laptops each night, as we do not have the ability to charge them in classrooms at the beginning of each day. For students who need to purchase a replacement charger, the cost is $23. Chargers can be purchased two ways:

  1. Go to MySchoolBucks and pay for one online and then pick it up from the Tech Office the next day.

  2. Send a check made out to Irving MS with your student to school. They will take it to the Tech Office in the morning and pick up a replacement charger   at the same time.

Irving Stays After

After School Program Parent Survey

Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality. This Survey has been approved by the FCPS Internal Survey Review Committee.  Seal Approval Number 22224.

Over 90% of our students participated in the after-school program this school year, with over 21,000 occurrences of students staying after-school.  Thank you for your continued support of the Middle School After-School Program!

Library News

Looking for a fun activity to enjoy with your middle schooler? Try reading the same young adult (YA) book, selected by your child and have book chats as you read through the book. This is a great way to encourage reading, connect to the interests of your child, and talk about something that connects the family. There are so many wonderful YA book options that are great for a family book club. Ms. Monk and Ms. Gawalt are available to recommend some excellent Virginia Readers’ Choice options from this year or one of many other books. If you would like to start a family book club and your child needs recommendations, please have them speak to our librarians.
